Stony Brook University Fall 2015 Admission Decions

@sbuadmissions‌ Thank you so much for your reply! I greatly appreciate it. If you don’t mind answering one more question, I would be pleased. About roughly how many undergraduate acceptances will Stony Brook be sending out this year? Thank you again.

@LOLHELPME‌ thank you!! I don’t know if I will attend yet- sbu was my first acceptance of hopefully many (fingers crossed)

@LOLHELPME‌ thank you!! I don’t know if I will attend yet- sbu was my first acceptance of hopefully many (fingers crossed)

Hello again. My son sent his first semester senior grades through his school. I had to give them a stamped, addressed envelope and they mailed them to the school. Good luck everybody.

Hi, I have around a 89 GPA Unweighted and around a 30 ACT with some EC’s, good recs, and a strong essay, I wonder what are my chances? I got deferred from 2 colleges around… self esteem isnt that high as of right now, if anyone can tell me what my chances are it would be helpful thanks!

@lenayd‌ Haha, I hope so too! Once again, congrats on your acceptance to Stony Brook and congrats to any more future college acceptances!!! (I have my fingers crossed for you as well.)

@tamdave123‌ Oh, okay. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain. I guess most of our guidance counselors are getting ready to submit mid-year grades; I asked my guidance counselor today and she said she was going to submit them tonight so I’ll see how that works out. Anyways, good luck on your son’s future endeavors!!!

@Dawn2015‌ Hi pal. I think you have a GREAT chance at Stony Brook. Defiantly apply with your awesome stats. And it’s okay friend, at least you weren’t totally rejected. Just have hope; in the blink of any eye, many college acceptance letters will be at your doorstep.

@LOLHELPME‌ I don’t think my counselor mentioned anything about sending mid-year grades. Probably because we didn’t take all our midterms yet due to the snow storm. Is it recommended to send mid year grades? I don’t mind sending them because I did fairly well but from what I’ve heard from other applicants (at least at my school), they aren’t going to send their grades. Hope you or anyone else can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance!!

First off, I just received an e-mail two days ago telling me that my decision had been made, and I learned that I was accepted, fortunately. Second, if you are involved in even a few strong extracurricular activities, you will more than likely have a chance! I have a GPA of 88 (unweighted) and an SAT score of 1860, but I have consistently participated in clubs/orchestra, plus I had an essay that my English teachers looked over and a handful of recommendations from peers, a counselor, and teachers. Since you have all of those things, you have no reason to feel discouraged and more than likely have a chance!

Otherwise, don’t feel bad about yourself! Getting deferred isn’t the end of the world - things will more than likely work out for you at a great school (like Stony Brook)!

@connetquotreppin‌ Hi again, friend. I think sending in mid-year grades is the best thing to do ESPECIALLY if you did fantastic the last two marking periods. I think I did pretty well these first two marking periods so I wouldn’t mind sending them in as well. And regardless, I believe some universities REQUIRE you to submit mid-year grades. I was reading this other forum about mid-year grades and Stony Brook updated some of the applicants’ SOLAR portals and told them to submit mid-year grades (my SOLAR portal didn’t mention anything about this, though.)

In essence, submitting mid-year grades is a good thing to do, if not mandatory, and would show the colleges you applied to how well you’re doing this year. Also, I wouldn’t worry too much right now about submitting mid-year grades as you mentioned that you still haven’t taken your midterms. But after receiving your grades from your midterms as well as your second marking period grade, defiantly talk to your guidance counselor about submitting your mid-year grades. I hope my answer was kinda helpful!

@pumpkinsback‌ Oh snap, congratulations on your acceptance to Stony Brook, pal!!! And thank you for your advice. I totally agree with you; even if you fall short in one criteria (in my case, my SAT scores ugh), I’m sure something else will boost your application up. Anyways, congrats again! Is this your first choice? :+)

@LOLHELPME Thank you very much! With a positive attitude like yours there’s no way you’re not going to get whatever outcome you want! Stony Brook isn’t my first choice - that’s NYU - but I’m grateful to have been accepted because I honestly thought that with my academic standing (GPA, etc.) I didn’t have much of a shot!

@LOLHELPME‌ @pumpkinsback‌ Thanks! I feel a little bit better!, I felt discouraged because my friend he has a 94 GPA and submitted it on Dec. 31st got accepted within the first batch of acceptances, whereas I submitted my application beginning of December and I still haven’t heard back, yeah its discouraging when others submitted so late yet got accepted so early and I am here getting deferred and still waiting on Stony. Trying to keep my head up high!

I applied for EOP too and I got the academic part just have to file my FAFSA now. I hope you get accepted!

What is EOP exactly?

@pumpkinsback‌ Haha, aw thanks a lot man! I’m just really worried because my SAT scores aren’t so great and I’m afraid Stony Brook won’t like that too much. I mean everyone that’s hearing back did REALLY GOOD on the SAT/ACT. I’m just not sure and I’m very frustrated at the moment. Anyways, thank you so much! I sincerely hope you also get into NYU (I applied as well!) And no, I think your GPA is absolutely fine!!! Don’t let that scare you because trust me, I’m sure there are other things that stand out so much more in your application. Keep me posted on how things work out, though!

@Dawn2015‌ Aw snap, I know exactly what you mean. Well, it’s no surprise that the kids who are highly competitive applicants are getting accepted first but that should be no reason to worry. Chris from sbuadmissions repeatably mentioned that the time you submitted your application has no correlation to your admission decision. So hey, we might hear back tomorrow for all we know! But I totally understand where you’re coming from; even though I said not to worry, I’m worrying my butt off here lol. Like I said before, my SAT scores are completely discouraging me ugh. However, lets just see how things work out with time. Hopefully, we hear back with good results! Tell me how everything works out for you too, amigooo!

@MissBree Congrats for being qualified for the EOP program!!! Does this mean that you’re in Stony Brook?! If so, HECK YEAH, DOUBLE CONGRATS!!!

@connetquotreppin‌ EOP stands for the Educational Opportunity Program. Basically, this program allows financially disadvantaged students with average stats to be eligible for acceptance at a SUNY institution, in this case Stony Brook. Here’s a link to learn more about it: http://www.suny.edu/attend/academics/eop/

I applied to EOP as well but I heard back last month that I was “academically overqualified.” Now, I’m placed in the regular decisions pool and all I have to do now is wait (wish I suck at.)

Well first off, congrats to all the people who have received their results! I too have received an acceptance from Stony Brook!

I applied with:
1780 in SAT I
ABC in predicted A level grades

I think my essay and my extra curriculars are what got me in!

I applied on December 30th, and got my result on January 25th.

Congrats to you all too!

Congrats guys!! Just out of curiosity, are you all in-state residents?

@connetquotreppin‌ yep! NYC resident

I’m freaking out. If anyone could respond to me I would be more than grateful. So I applied through the common app and didn’t know there was a supplemental essay. I didn’t see one and I didn’t even think there is one. Could anyone verify that there is a supplement for stony through the common app and/or if it will drastically affect my chances?

Hey Albert-
Don’t worry man, it’s all good: there’s no supplement for stony brook. All they require is the main CommonApp essay.

Don’t worry, you’ll be good, and I’m sure you’ll get the acceptance!
Keep positive
