I got an email saying that i was waitlisted. It said to submit the waitlist request before May 1st so i am assuming they will notify the waitlisted applicants around June. Does this mean i cannot send my deposit for my other schools because all schools are asking for deposit by May 1st. Stony brook is my 1st preference. How does this waitlist process work?

The waitlist is a big giant MAYBE. It’s way nicer than a rejection but realistically you need to turn the page and move on with your plans as if it were a rejection. The reality of it is that your chances of moving off the waitlist and into Stony Brook are probably pretty slim. Sorry.

My son was also waitlisted at Stony Brook and on his Solar status screen there was a place to click to get more info on how the Stony Brook waitlist operates. You should go to your Solar screen and read that material. It basically tells you to plan on a college life that does NOT include Stony Brook .

So before the May 1st enrollment deadlines, you need to select your next best/favorite option after Stony brook and move forward with that plan as if Stony Brook had rejected you outright. So enroll at XYZ College, pay your deposits, visit accepted students’ days, etc.

Then, sometime up the road, perhaps sometime in June. . . .IF you should happen to move up and off the waiting list and get a call from Stony Brook that they have found room for you and it is still where you really really want to go to school . . . .you will have to forfeit those deposits you made at the XYZ college in order to enroll at Stony Brook.

What were your Stats btw?
