Does Stony Brook yield protect? I have heard that they receive tons of applications from top NYC high schools and, consequently, that quite a bit of them are rejected in spite of high stats and an all-around excellent application. I am not one of them, but I live in the Stony Brook area and unsurprisingly many kids from our school apply. I am simply curious as to whether I (35 ACT, 14 APs 9-12, 103 GPA, decent ECs, prospective pre-med applying for AMS) have a substantial chance of being denied for the sake of yield rate, although it is known that low yield is the norm for SUNY schools.
What does your guidance counselor have to say about your chances? They should know how many students have been accepted from your school and what their stats are.
