Portal changed. Sorry for the confusion

I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to the incoming class at Stony Brook University. I understand that this news must be disappointing to you and want to assure you that your application received very careful evaluation by our Admissions Committee. You should know that the University received a record number of applications this year for a limited number of seats, making it necessary to disappoint many applicants.

As I’m sure you know, every university has its own unique standards and criteria. Our committee works very hard to select those applicants whose specific academic objectives and personal development will be best served by Stony Brook University.

I greatly appreciate your interest in Stony Brook University and thank you for the effort you put into your application. Please accept our best wishes for success in your college career and in all your future endeavors.

There are several experiences we go through where we apply for something, usually multiple options (colleges, jobs), where we have a strong emotional reaction to acceptance or rejection.

Thinking about it, one can only accept one offer, and what we make of the offers we do have tends to be strongly related to how dynamic we are once we get started.

Take heart, do not bear a grudge, reserve your energy for something positive and important to you. When you arrive at your chosen college, look for opportunities and mentors, and be prepared to work hard until things are easy (“if it is not easy you have not worked hard enough” is a good definition of mastery).

And enjoy it all, the applications, essays etc., be able to laugh at the challenges, celebrate the victories. If you missed an opportunity to do better, make a simple note, and move forward.

It’s part of life, the years in college are a great opportunity to show what you can do, how disciplined you can be, and how much you can enjoy the experience while you are at it.

Son hasn’t heard yet from SB and he applied Nov 14. I am figuring he will be wait listed at this point. He was also accepted to UB so I think that will be where he is going. My older son currently goes to UB and loves it. Older son was accepted to SB two years ago and got about $4500 scholarship money. Don’t know why this takes so long. When my older son was waitlisted by Binghamton they at least let him know that even though he appled EA he was put in with the Reg. admission candidates so he at least knew where he stood. Wish SB was more forthcoming with their info.
