Stop worrying everybody, you have great chances

do they notify intels by e-mail?

tanveer149,I think so. At least I know Harvard informs intels like us through email. Hey, Why is everyone so tense. Carmin04-optimistic said it all. Relax guyz, It shall be well.Chill out everyone

Swarthmore also notifies internationals by mail, too.

And don’t many schools have “check status” websites that let you see your result?

haha thanks for your optimistic words 8]

Well most colleges will send you an email, but you will receive the official letter through mail. There are some colleges that have special web pages where you can check your status.
And again I’m glad that my thread helped you become more confident.

Aren’t the “check status” stuff a bit harsh? Heard that one person received a rejection for “not being up to academic standards” or sth like that.

Do you remember which college that was?
Usually the online status checks display the actual letter that you are going to receive in the mail.

That is very strange, I don’t believe that a college will tell you why you didn’t get in specifically.

“not being up to academic standards” - that is a very harsh thing to have to see…especially after you invest so much into an application intellectually, physically and emotionally. i don’t think colleges would say something like that on a rejection letter.

can’t remember which one it was

quite honestly speaking, i must agree with the thread opening…top unis arnt as hard to get in as we normally think

the advice from a student with lacklustre grades who got into a top U is firstly, to go to the extremes in every part of your application if you really want to get in (i.e. flying over for interviews, paying big bucks for frankly speaking quite useless essay editing services, try to get every source of preparatory material for your tests or interviews, be it books, ebooks, leaflets of advice…i had 3 books flown in from amazon.uk, out of 20+ i have solely for admissions) and really prepare WELL (and that doesnt automatically equate to paying tens of thousands for ivy-prep camps etc.)

2ndly, colleges accept applications, not applicants…so despite your obviously lacking CV or EC records, brag as loud as you can…if you’re from a seemingly-broken family, USE it, talk about the extreme pain u went thru, the angst, and most importantly, the DETERMINATION that ensured your smooth transition to pre-U life and the necessary grades for admission…if you won a medal for anything even if its w/o an opponent, its time to SHOW them the intense heat and competition you felt, the sweat-dripping hardwork that you put in after slogging for nights…most importantly, do not make it a laundry list, using precious words to describe the blazing heat, the dripping sweat, the slamming of your fist on the wall conveys sincerity and most crucially, the personal touch that makes the unbelievable believable…i dont adovcate lying, but getting admissions officers to really believe what we say is getting harder nowadays and honestly, how many of us really really puts in EVERYTHING thats us into the essay or statement?

lastly, admissions is actually more about knowing how to apply than the application itself…knowing what are admissions officers really looking for, knowing what really stands you out from that thick pile of applications, knowing what to expect from the admissions tests or interviews…i applied twice before i got in =)

p.s. need advice or wanna share your views? post here or pm me =)

Well, this is my first time down here. I was going through the CC world after crying my eyes out over my Jan SAT scores and even more whn people started posting their 2300 scores. Then I see such a optimistic thread. A breath of fresh air in CC. Good for u cosmin04.
I hope u get into ur dream school. And everyone else here too.

Hey everyone, how are you holding out? there are 39-40 days left untill we get our admission letters and I’m sure that most of us are really anxious.
The question is how are you feeling? More or less confident, affraid or positive? Me, I’m sliding towards positive, and trying to keep it up. Hope you’re doing better than me.I’m sure we’ll all have at least a positive answer by the second of april:)

I try not to think of decisions. There are plenty of things that keep me busy around this time (but I can’t refrain from visiting this site:D). And about how I’m feeling, well, I am preparing myself for the worst. I have backup plans in case I am not accepted in the States and I try to take these plans for granted instead of dreaming I will get into the Ivy league.

I don’t know if it’s the best attitude, but it works for me. I was surprisingly ok with the rejection from Yale. Mathematically speaking, there are 2 possibilities: get in or not. If you get in, well, that’s great, amazing, extraordinary and so on. If you don’t get in and have no backup plans, you will be disappointed and will have a hard time moving on. So it’s good to be prepared for whatever comes.

The last thing I want is to make you lose all your spirit. In fact, I haven’t met anyone who completely agrees with me, but I wanted to share with you my point of view. If you don’t agree with me, ignore this post. Keep in mind only the first phrase, because by thinking of decisions all the time you may lose precious moments with your friends.

^ worry about stuff that you can change.

What can you change at this point?

Nothing.Maybe we can improve our grades for the second semester but that’s it…Actually we can keep on hoping not that it will do any good:P

Send positive vibes to the universe?
(hoping they’ll reach the adcoms!)

I agree with angelutza  I am anxious, yeah. But when it comes to HYPSM, what we can do is hope for the best, yet prepare for the worst. So, all the best to everyone. Cosmin, you’ve started a great thread  Thank you!

Hey guys. Just wanted to share a little story with you. March didn’t start to well for me. I got a email from Northwestern which stated that my application had been withdrawn because they had not received all my materials. They hadn’t received the SAT. Which I had sent…but who knows.I talked to them and faxed them my official copy of the SAT. Not such a great start for me…hope nothing like this happened ot any of you.
There’s still three more weeks untill our responses.
