Storage of belongings over summer break

From my previous messages you probably know that I am the father of an incoming freshman. We live in California so it is impossible to move dorm room belongings back and forth between home and school over the summer. How do Wellesley students manage to keep their stuff over the summer session? Does the college have sufficient storage? Do students get together and rent storage lockers off campus? Thanks in advance!

The college provides limited storage for students who will be returning for the fall semester. Students who go abroad or take a leave of absence, even if only for one semester, must find storage off campus.

More storage is given to students who live far away (and cannot afford to move/ship everything home every year). As of a year ago, the process involved a certain allotment of stickers to put on boxes (one sticker for small boxes, two for large boxes). Last I knew, students who lived far away--I forget how many miles, but CA definitely counts--received four stickers. All boxes go into a common, locked storage room in the student's current dorm. If the student plans to move to another dorm for the fall, she'll need to transport the boxes across campus at the beginning of that semester.

It's not a big deal, and the areas are secure. If your daughter has more boxes than she can keep on campus, there are storage companies in the area that hang around campus at the end of the year. Many of them do door-to-door picks ups and deliveries.

Like Ringer05 said, you get more labels for boxes the further away you live. This year, Tower residents were allowed to store unlimited soft items in a garbage bag on the top shelf of the storage room. My window seat cushions and a couple of stuffed animals were thus taken care of.

One of my (ex) roommates, who will be abroad in the fall, rented a big storage container from "Door to Door Storage" which will hold most of her things for 6 months.
