Storrs vs Regional Campus

I was admitted into the Greater Hartford campus and was told that after two years I could transfer to the Storrs campus. Are UConn regional campuses the same as Storrs or are they considered to be the equivalent of a community college? Also, if i do end up going to the Hartford campus would I be able to easily transfer to another university after freshman/ sophomore year or would it be difficult for another school to accept me?

Main question: should I go to UConn Hartford even though I got accepted to schools like Fordham, Stony Brook, Drexel, and UMass Amherst?

I don’t consider the regional campuses to be even remotely close to community colleges, and I live in CT (if that helps). That said, if one or more of those other schools are affordable and you want the full college experience (ie. living on campus), then I’d go for one of them.

Just want to clarify, UConn is instate? I would strongly consider your finances unless your family can pay.

Yes UConn is instate and I would be commuting to the Hartford campus. I don’t really want to have the full college experience because I don’t want to share a dorm with anyone nor do I care for parties very much. Finances are not an issue in my case yet I still think I want to go to UConn Hartford just because I can live at home. Would commuting be a good decision?

In your case, it sounds like living at home and commuting to the Hartford campus would make you happiest so that’s what you should do. At the end of the day, choosing a college is all about choosing an environment you feel you can be successful. If that means commuting for 2 years, then I think you’ve found your answer.

Thank you for your help!

To answer your transfer question, you shouldn’t have any problem transferring. Be aware that there’s no guarantee that the credits you will earn at UConn will transfer to other universities. This is one reason why doing a campus change to the Storrs campus may be preferable than trying to transfer to another university after two years.

It sounds to be like UConn-Hartford is the place that would best fit your needs. Being close to home will allow you to commute and save money. If you aren’t looking for the full college experience then I wouldn’t recommend going to the other schools that you have been accepted to. The regional campuses are definitely not seen as equivalent to a community college but they are not quite up to par with the Storrs campus.
