Story vs. Resume Style

I am writing an essay for a scholarship. I actually am leaning towards writing it, at least the opening a paragraph like a story with a thesis at the end, rather than addressing the question specifically, being broad with the opening line and getting narrower. (I'm almost doing the opposite with a detailed opening line).

What is the best way? I have more than enough to talk about, I'm almost tempted to lay it all on them and give them example after example of why I am the most qualified (without saying that) but I am afraid that if I do that I will be too vague and general.
