I have been a straight A student all my life, but I am getting a B in AP Chemistry this semester as a junior.
I know this is rather arbitrary, but how much does it hurt to have a B in my second semester junior year for college admission?
I'm planning on applying to top-notch ivies (HYP) and Stanford.
My extracurricular is beyond excellent.
Thanks for your input.

Boohooo…1 B in a really hard class…I remember I got my first B after being an all A student all my life, it feels kinda weird, like you’re not yourself anymore…but then I realized that I was being stupid. This isn’t going to hurt you much, just do well next year.

I had 2 B’s and got into Yale.

youre screwed if you get a B
good luck at your local community college

If it really bugs you, retake it online :D

And yes, I am a freak

Should have tried harder.

It’s okay. Higher education isn’t for everyone.

For all you As, you don’t have much grasp of what is important to the top tier schools in evaluating applicants it seems. With your logic, only 4.0 students are accepted, right?

One B won’t get you accepted, one B won’t get you rejected. Relax a bit, OK? Best of luck to you.

It’s incredible just how stupid some academically proficient students really are.

The single B will in no way hurt you. It’s better to get the first B overwith in high school. The first one for me came last semester[sophomore year college] and it seemed to hit much rougher there.

So basically, you’ll be fine.

<<it’s incredible=“” just=“” how=“” stupid=“” some=“” academically=“” proficient=“” students=“” really=“” are.=“”>></it’s>

No joke! Kinda makes you worry about them when they hit the real world.

Just to be fair to the OP, he doesn’t seem too nervous about the B (as far as I can tell). I also really doubt that one B would hurt your chances, but I’m curious what constitutes as a significant drop in grades, that will hurt your chances at admission. Any thoughts?

I can understand how the OP is thinking, after all, this is CC and it can get a bit over the top. On the otherhand, the whole industry lends itself to this thinking with achieving high scores, and trying for the elusive 4.0 (or 4.5 at some schools - how real world is that?). If the OP’s school is like the one my brother attends, you have NO chance of valedictorian status if you get one B. No weighting classes and this is a regular public school, so yeah, he has friends that are trying for top schools that freak out at the concept of a “B” in an AP class, while watching other students that didn’t apply themselves graduate ranked first in class. Luckily for him, I just went through all this and he can see it is not about the one “B”.

OP: You will do great no matter what!! And btw…at my brother’s school, quite a few students that got a couple “B’s” are attending Ivy/top 10 schools.

It’s fine. At ANY school you’re applying to, one (or even a bit more B’s), won’t really do anything of themselves.

Besides, I agree with the one that said get the “B” over it in HS…I know people that got straight A’s in HS, went to good colleges, received a B and had more trouble dealing with it. It’s gonna happen sometime in your life for 99.99% of the people, so…not a big deal.

if you are rejected from HYPMS schools, it will not be because you received a B in AP Chem

<<if you=“” are=“” rejected=“” from=“” hypms=“” schools,=“” it=“” will=“” be=“” because=“” received=“” a=“” b=“” in=“” ap=“” chem=“”>></if>

Fixed. :)

It is amazing how stupid these brilliant academic students are. It’s like they don’t know anything outside of homework and test taking.

Which is why many of them end up at city universities or state flagships.

No pity.

Haha would you like me to calm your nerves?

This is my horrid B story:
Junior Year-
Normal Anatomy Elective-
Grade recieved? B+
…
the kicker?
I will be applying to specific health&science programs at some tippy-top colleges.

■■■.

Hopefully my A+ in Bio, Chem, Physics, & AP Bio will do the trick…

Lol, decanela. Even though it won’t really matter to colleges you apply to, that must be really depressing.
