Straight A's but few EC's

I'm planning to apply to some top schools next year as a junior transfer, but I'm worried about my lack of EC's. My grades are exceptional (straight A's and A+'s), but I've joined very few clubs and haven't really been committed to any. (Also, my SAT score is a 2120)

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Which schools were you able to get into?

Would also like to see an answer to this question ^^

You’ll definitely get into some places. Although he wasn’t a transfer, my friend was all about the stats in high school and wrote a great essay. His ECs were terrible but he got into MIT/Dartmouth/Hopkins and similar schools. Waitlisted at Harvard too.

i think ECs show that your passionate about your major and that you have other interests, too. not having a laundry list can be a good thing, because then it means you are dedicating your time to the things that matter to you. you said you aren’t committed, though, so maybe use this semester and next semester to get more involved in the few that you are part of. it’s also different from transfers because a lot of top schools want to see that you were taking advantage of what was offered at your previous school and that you were still trying to make the best of it.

different schools focus on different stuff.

For an applicant like you (with great stats) I think ECs are like the icing on the cake. You know, just that little something extra to put you over the top. Like Taggart said, you’ll probably get in some places anyway but ECs can only help. Don’t forget that you also need something to go on your resume for grad school & job hunts … you might try finding something that kind of interests you, you never know how it’ll pan out. Or if not, you could always start something. You don’t need tons of things, one or two will probably due

If you are active in like one or two things that should be sufficient. Not everyone is president of 500 clubs like half the people claim to be on CC. Don’t worry…

Has anyone here gotten into an Ivy or other top school with very few EC’s?
