When I was sending the midyear reports, I noticed that my class rank fell from 3 to 10 even though I earned a 4.0 UW first semester. Apparently, the class rank that I sent in the Fall did not include the courses I took in middle school.

Should I send a letter explaining the drop in the class rank? Both the midyear report and the transcript in the Fall list the middle school courses, so it appears that the only difference between the midyear report and the transcript is the 1st semester grades.

You're sure it's the middle school grades that brought it down? Very strange to include MS grades in HS ranking. It could be that your class load was less strenuous than 7 other people who got 4.0 UW. If the move from 3-10 is out of 500 or so then I would let it go. If it's out of 20 you may have to explain (after talking to your guidance counselor about how it happened).

I think the OP is referring to HS credits earned while in middle school, in which case it would probably be calculated into the GPA. I'd wonder why they just now calculated those courses in? But ask your GC before you blow it out of proportion too.

Erin's Dad: I think it is the middle school grades because I am taking the most strenuous classes.

Cards4life: Yes, that is what I meant.

I will contact my GC, but I fear it is too late to notify the schools. If the schools do not receive it in time, will they think my rank 3 during the Fall was a fluke?

Talk to your GC
How many people are in your HS?

No, you shouldn't send anything, that would be insane. 10th is a very good rank, so you shouldn't freak out about it. A letter pegs you as one of "those" kids and would be likely to annoy an admissions officer.

au contraire, I think it is important to let the your schools know why your rank suddenly fell 7 spots.. it's not just one or two spot slips... they might think you are slacking because of senioritis.

did they get your midyear, and see that 4.0? If they did, i wouldn't worry, but if it were me to be honest I'd call and ask anyway.
