"Florida State University traditionally receives more qualified freshman applications for Fall Term than we can accommodate. However, after a careful review of your application, we would like to offer you admission to the University for the Summer Term (June 30 - August 8). By accepting our summer offer, you will be able to enroll in the fall as a continuing student."

I have never heard of anything like this. Does anyone have any idea how common it is? Has anyone else received this decision? It sounds interesting, and I had heard that going in the summer for your first semester was a good idea. Any thoughts?

A lot of students are either offered Summer admission or choose to come Summer anyway so they can get started when the atmosphere is a bit more relaxed and they can learn their way around with a lighter load to get accustomed to college life.

If FSU is your first choice then definitely do this. I know of at least 3 kids last year that were offered summer when they had applied for Fall. I know of many more that were deferred and then rejected on March 28! Summer is a really nice time to start college. Everything is more relaxed and the kids are very social. My daughter applied for summer for this reason.

I agree - take FSU up on this offer. FSU-UF started in Summer and it was a good time for him. He's posted about this and may even answer any questions you have directly.

If you turn this offer down, you may be rejected for Fall.

it is your ticket to FSU, if you want to go. You can certainly call and ask if they will reconsider you for the Fall term, but as seiclan said that could be very risky.

many kids are ambivalent about starting college so soon after high school ends and missing out on "one last summer" with your high school friends. However, from those who have chosen the summer term or offered summer admission (as is the case with you) all seem to have really enjoyed themselves.

there is another cc member here FSU-UF who can speak with experience on this issue.
