Strange Email Recieved from Penn Admissions, Accepted and Applied ED

Thank you for your application for admission to the University of Pennsylvania. As you did not supply or do not have a social security number, you have been assigned the following Penn student identifier: . This number should be used on all future correspondence or application documents that you submit to the University. Also, throughout the application process, if you are asked to fill in a social security number, please use your new Penn student identifier. Do not be concerned if you have already sent in supplemental materials without this number, we will be able to add these materials to your application file.

Additionally, if you are admitted to the University, you will use this Penn student identifier while you are a student at Penn. Therefore, I urge you to keep this number in a safe place and again, please make sure that you write this number on any correspondence that you send to the University.

All the best as you complete your current school year. Please contact the Admissions Office by replying to this email or calling 215-898-7507 if you have any questions.

Regards,

Penn Admissions

A) I applied ED and was accepted.
B) There is no Penn ID# in this email
C) I put my social on the common app.

Why would I be receiving this?
Did any other ED accepted applicants receive this?
Thanks!

nope. you should definitely call them tomorrow.

I got the same e-mail. I applied RD; however, I am certain that I provided by SSN since I applied for financial aid.

Go figure.

double check your decision letter. then call. in that order.

I got the same e-mail just now. I put my SSN in my Common App (and I just double-checked to make sure). Should I call/e-mail Penn just to make sure they have my SSN? btw - does anybody in their MyPenn Portal have 'ACT Tests' as 'Outstanding Material' even though only SAT scores were taken?

I got the same email
Was accepted ED, provided my SSN, and didnt get a PIN number

I just emailed them back just in case, but its probably some idiot who managed to get hold of all the applicants' emails and is just looking to screw people over who send SSNs back to them

j'adoreDior:

Yes, I only took the SATs and have ACTs as outstanding materials. I don't really think it's a big deal, because pretty much everything that you didn't send in on that big list shows up there. For example, TOEFL and that transfer form show up too, but I don't need those either.

i got that email, then i got the "sent erroneously" email.

just a mistake.

Same email - same response.

Man, Penn's having some difficulties with their technology this year.

Penn e-mailed me (and I assume everyone else) last night to notify us that the e-mail you posted was sent in error.

No worries.

Fake emails from a sender claiming to be Cornell, mistaken emails from UPenn... what's the world coming to??? Tsk tsk. :o

sounds like a phishing email to me

While processing your application for admission to the University of Pennsylvania, we have noted that you are requesting financial aid. It is our desire to notify you of our admissions decision and your financial aid eligibility at the same time. In order for us to do so, you will need to complete the Financial Aid Application, if you have not already done so.

Please visit Welcome to Student Financial Services and click on the link "Apply for Financial Aid". On this site, you will be able to obtain a checklist of the documents required, including links to applications and forms to download. If you are a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, you will be able to complete the Penn Financial Aid Supplement online via the MyPenn Application Portal. To access the MyPenn Portal and complete the Penn Financial Aid Supplement, you must use the login information which was sent to you recently. If you have not received this information, you should receive it shortly.

If you are not a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, you will receive a Financial Aid application packet in the mail. However, we suggest that you access this information and forms at Welcome to Student Financial Services.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Best wishes for a successful school year.

Good Evening,

At about 3:35 p.m. EST today you may have received an e-mail from Penn pertaining to financial aid. This email was sent in error and you may safely disregard it.

We apologize for any confusion that it may have caused.
