Hey guys, I have a question about a slightly strange experience I had with Cornell today. A senior at Human Ecology (doing HBHS major and applying to med school, which is exactly what im going for) called me and asked me if I had any questions for her about Cornell. So we talked for about 20-25 minutes and I asked a bunch of questions.
What does this phone call mean: is it just a simple "do you have any questions" sort of thing or was it an interview of sorts?
The girl didn't mention anything about an alumni interview, either, and she didn't ask me any questions.

Thanks! I'm a bit stumped.

it was what it seemed - an outreach program by HumEc to answer any questions prospective students have - just as an alum "interview" doesn't mean you have a better chance - only that an alum is trying to answer any questions you may have.

I wouldn't call that a strange experience at all... it's par for the course in admissions these days.

That said, provided that you asked reasonable questions and sound generally like you knew what you were talking about and expressed a bona fide interest in Cornell, these types of contacts will only boost your application. Like the alumni contacts, they can only help you.

some senior in hbhs handwrote a letter and mailed it to my house

Yeah, Cayuga, I asked a lot of questions like "How would you describe the typical HumEc class?" and so forth, I asked about research opportunities, her favorite aspects of the major, the infamous orgo class, etc.
And yes, I asked some pretty specific questions about HumEc as well so hopefully it'll help my application.

And cool, Anbu!
