Strange question but...

I know this is a strange question, but I have an interview for Columbia at a coffee shop and I don't know how I will recognize my interviewer. So how will she recognize me? I'm just asking and if anyone knows the process, let me know.

If you have email access to the interviewer, you could send a quick note describing your appearance, what you’ll be wearing.

FindAPlace, I have to disagree with you, that would be weird.

I’ve had three college interview, one with Columbia, and it’s best to just wait around by the door and look like you’re looking for someone. They will either call you over to their table or ask you if you’re John on their way in.

Ok, but what if I’m technically early and don’t know where to go in the coffee shop? Do I sit down and what if the waiter tells me to order and she isn’t there yet? what if she doesn’t see me and we are sitting next to each other and never notice? I know it sounds like i’m paranoid, but what if its the little things that make an entire interview go wrong? Thanks you in advance for all your replies!

Oh hahah I’ve actually never thought about this problem b/c I’m pretty much the only Asian female you’ll see anywhere in the surrounding area…So I guess whoever the first Asian person my interviewer sees would be me!

my suggestion; if you have a columbia blue album or the like bring it.

Any other suggestions? If not, then I’ll just take Conorske advice and pretend to look for somebody. Thanks any ways guys!

You could google image the interviewer. I did that for all three of my interviews and it worked out fine! Maybe it’s creepy but it cut down on my nerves.

If you wear a suit or formal interview clothing, chances are you’ll be the only teenager there wearing anything like it and that should be that. They will see you, and come get you. I’m sure they are used to it.

Don’t pretend to look for someone haha, they’ll be looking for you too. Just play it cool and they will, just like my three did, politely ask, “Are you Susan? Hi, I’m Mr. Sanders.”

Hey! I also had my interview in a coffee shop and didn’t think about how he would find me until like the day of haha.

I ended up being like 15 minutes early, so I just grabbed a magazine and sat down. I saw someone come into the cafe who seemed like he was looking for someone and made eye contact and smile, looking as if I had a question (does that make sense?) He just asked me, “Are you so-and-so?” and it was fine from there.

Don’t worry too much about these little things. One thing that went wrong was our e-mail communication. He asked me if I was available on a certain day/time and I said yes and everything, but I never got a reply back. So i had to call him the day of to confirm. Went to voicemail. Then he called me, I couldn’t get to the phone quick enough, haha. We finally ended up talking an hour before the time, finally confirming that we were both going to be there.

But the interview went fantastic. We ended up talking for an hour, and it was so chill. He told me I’d be a good fit for Columbia after (if only it was easy enough to squeeze out an acceptance through an interview haha) and we kind of forgot about the whole pre-interview conflict. So don’t worry too much about the little things, or they’ll get to you. Just be yourself.
