Strange SAT circumstances...

Hey guys! I recently took the SAT in June and scored a dismal 2140. Unfortunately, I want to apply to Yale SCEA in December. My question is will Yale consider out the circumstances surrounding this score?

Specifically, I was hospitalized very soon after taking the test on account of a serious medical condition. Would these circumstances make improve their perception of my score? Is it at all relevent?

If they don’t, that is also fine- really just curious about this though.

Don’t waste app space by making excuses for your score. Study hard and take the October test.

Ha, “dismal”.

Thought so! Just checking to see… I guess I won’t be applying early then (need two more su jet tests as well).

Can anyone tell me if this is an “ok” score for Yale? (I am assuming based on past SCEA threads that it is NOT).

Reading 710
Math 690
Writing 740

I’d say that you’re fine, but I’m a bit more optimistic than most of the other users on this forum. I think that a 2140 SAT score along with an awesome GPA, great EC’s, essays, and recommendations would make you just as competitive as most of Yale’s other SCEA applicants. However, if you’re reeeally bothered with your score, I’m not going to discourage you from retaking it.

I think your analysis is correct. You should take the SAT I and II in October and November, which is too late for SCEA.

Is there anyway around this (allowing me to apply early and retake the SAT)?

It seems somewhat unfair given the nature of the June SAT

@GhostKoi I’ve heard rumours that they may offer a September retake for those dissatisfied with their scores. Maybe someone else could verify this.

@Hermit9 That would be fantastic!

Can anyone confirm this?

@GhostKoi Sadly, they do not have a September test, but they are allowing you to take the October test for free if you feel dissatisfied.

From their website:

" However, we have waived the fee for the October SAT administration for students who let us know that their testing experience was negatively affected by the printing error and we will continue to do so, through the September 3 registration deadline for the October administration."

That is unfortunate. Especially since I received a 690 in Math.

I would like to have seen my unaltered score!
