i have been checking out this site for a few weeks now- finally decided to get an account and post!

I would like to go to Harvard, Yale, Upenn, Columbia, Georgetown, Uchicago, or UC Berkeley. These are all very difficult and I understand.

I went to Penn State (business program) for a year (freshman), got a 4.0 both semesters, and decided I wanted to come back home. I am now a student at a community college (soph). IF I can maintain my 4.0 gpa, am I going to be looked at as a cc transfer or 4 year? i am sure the answer is simple but i couldnt figure it out. is it going to hurt me that i went from a 4 year to a community college and now looking to transfer?

i was in numerous clubs and had a few leadership positions at penn. I have internships for freshman and soph summer as well. do i stand a chance?

You will be looked at as a cross between a 4year transfer and a cc transfer student, since you will have had experience at both. Since you got a 4.0 at Penn State, the adcoms will be aware that you didn’t leave because of academic difficulties, so that is good.

I suspect you will get into at least one or two of the colleges listed (Columbia and perhaps UC Berkeley) but you really should list some safety/matches as well, because like all chance-me threads, this is just a guess.

I think it will come down to your essays and LOR… you have the ability, as based on college gpa and SAT scores, but you also have a low HS gpa and did jump ship from Penn State, which may leave the colleges asking “why”? as well as asking whether or not this latest wish to jump to their (prestigious) school isn’t just another blind jump. Thus, the essays of who you are being now is really important so they can see how you do fit into their academic community and what you bring to the conversation.
