(Haven't asked GC about this, she's been out of the office for the past two weeks as May 1st rapidly approaches)

Looking ahead to the CommonApp, I realize I'll need a letter of rec or two, hopefully one from a non-teacher. My teacher one is nailed down, soph/junior history teacher who trusts me with final exam answers, etc.

My issue is with the non-teacher rec. I've got decent EC's but none of them are in leadership like positions (I've got language tutors, piano, Wikipedia contributions alongside a current professor who got his Sociology PhD from one of my target schools). Besides the far-fetched Wikipedia link, none of those really scream "leadership".

I have, however, been going yearly (since 2009, returning this year) to a summer camp where I have attained leadership positions and built up a great rapport with the counselors (I'd wager way more than with my history teacher). One of them, especially, has seen me every year and watched me mature into the guy I am now. He's also got a PhD, either in Psychology or some form of education.

Only problem is that the camp, as well as the aforementioned counselor, are Russian. He can speak English with almost no accent and has comparable writing skills, but I'm curious what effect his background will have on colleges. Any pointers, please?
