I know a few kids who got 800 on the CR. They all enjoy reading and did not find the CR portion of the test difficult. So READ, READ, READ that is the best advice. Also when you find a new word write it down, look it up and look at it again in the book to understand the context and word games can help too. Of course you should take as many practice tests as you can too.

This guy has some fun tips: Scrabble: Old Word Order He uses words that you'll probably need to look up. Obviously that is deliberate.

how do they know reading actually helps them? I get a decent CR score and I don't even finish the whole passage. I skip the passages I don't need, in which none of the questions are asking me about, and I only skim through them when it asks me for a Main idea/ Compare the 2 passages. I've read tons of books and it doesn't help. It's all about understanding the answer choices, and deciphering their complex wording. A lot of my friends get stuck on 2 answer choices that seem to be saying the exact same thing. Now tell me, how does reading a novel supposed to help you get out of that situation?

Hey, if your idea of skimming passages gets you somewhere, good for you. For the majority of humanity, you have to KNOW HOW TO READ WELL before you start skimming. Just because you have a decent CR score from not reading novels doesn't mean reading doesnt help. How does reading a novel get somebody out of a situation? it helps you become a better reader, do you suggest reading a picture book?- i sincerely hope you weren't serious when you asked that question. By the way, whats your "decent" CR score? Just because you have one good score for CR doesn't make reading a waste of time, it can make you a much more versatile and proficient reader overall. And how do they know it actually helps them? You've got to be kidding me. You claim that "you read a ton of books and it doesnt help", what do you read? a primer? I assure you that if you pick the right novels you will be deciphering things beyond mere vocabulary. Take Origins of species for example, that book is packed with more SAT Vocab then the damn 3500 word list. I know plenty of people who don't read often but get above 700s for CR, but they're all fairly strong readers and they definitely do not devalue the importance of reading, thats just ridiculous.
