My S just found out he was waitlisted by his top choice and he is planning on pursuing it.
Are there any strategies that would be helpful?
I remember recently reading a thread where somone listed all the things she'd done to get off the waitlist but I can't seem to find it.
Meanwhile, he does have several fine choices but NYU is his top choice.

From the NYU Common data set for last year - NYU takes alot off the waitlist - I would definetly pursue it.

Freshman wait-listed students (students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was contingent on space availability)
Yes No
Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? X
If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2008 admissions:
Number of qualified applicants placed on waiting list 1864
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 1037
Number of wait-listed students admitted 543

Thanks for that info Kleibo.

Is it proper protocol to write a letter letting NYU know he would definitley attend if selected?

Yes, as long as money is not an issue because that will always be a problem with NYU.
