Straw Hats (& other summer auditions) - Summer 2016

@cherieb - My D’s friend that she’s planning to stay with in NYC for StrawHats is in the same boat- still waiting. My D has her slot - but she submitted pretty early.

We are in the same boat too!!! NO WORD and she applied in November. And they say not to contact them…soooooo waiting

Thanks @kategrizz . I had no idea applications were accepted so early. After hounding my daughter this time last year about college app’s, I decided to really let her take care of business now that she’s in college and I’ve stayed out of everything. A great relief but I do wish I had known - I may have nudged her to get it in sooner.

Yes @dreamatinydream - the not contacting them part is tough.

Last I heard, my S and @kategrizz D are driving to Strawhats together  S, too, got his slot very early in part because his classmates were on top of it!

Son sent his Strawhat application by mid December and then heard he had an audition a week ago… nearly two months later. So be patient.

Midwest Theatre Auditions today! Who’s attending?

My S is heading there with classmates! BAL everyone!

Good Luck to all with their auditions! My D got a no from both StrawHats and NETC for auditions this year. She hasn’t heard of any freshman females who were given slots, though I imagine some did (We are calling it the Freshman Freeze-out). She has a strong resume and submitted early, but we knew it was a long shot. Hoping she gets in to them next year. Plan B is in effect - Hustling around to any open calls and hoping to be seen. Good experience for the real world!

@artskids… Wishing those kids safe travels, and a successful weekend!

For those of you who auditioned for Pittsburgh CLO, has anyone been offered a job as of yet?

There’s some talk of non-equity ensemble offerings going out on Audition Update today.

@Jkellynh17 … where is audition update… is there a link?

Just google audition update. It a website actor’s use to update one another on auditions, callbacks etc.

I PM’d you. I’m not sure I can link message boards.

Anyone ever work with Ozark Actors Theatre? EMC Points how does that work? Appreciate any thoughts…

Thanks

I’m not familiar with Ozark. But EMC points are a good thing! EMC stands for Equity Membership Candidate. An actor can earn points based on how many weeks/hours they work at an approved equity theater. I think it takes 50 points to earn your full equity card. Being EMC, you can still audition for non-eq work. You also can also go to equity calls. You will be lower on the list to be seen than those with their full equity card. But you have a chance of being seen if time allows. You will receive a card you can keep in your wallet and show at auditions if needed. To obtain points, you fill out an application with the first theatre you work with who offers you EMC status. They send it in on your behalf. Then you need to have any subsequent theaters you work with who offer EMC points submit the form/points earned for that work as well. Once you have 50 points I think you have up to 5 years to take your full equity card. Some people choose not to so they can still do non-eq work.

@vvnstar … thanks so much for the explanation… this helps a lot

For those of you who didn’t get an audition @ Strawhats, I recommend searching summer theatres and submitting video auditions. My son dragged his heels submitting and didn’t give himself the best shot @ getting a StrawHat slot, however submitted video to a theatre and got a summer job at at an EMC theatre. If you didn’t get a slot, it doesn’t mean you are not talented, it is a numbers game. There are so many unified auditions out there, next year he told me he was definitely going to set a plan earlier in the year to give him the best shot possible. Get out there and break legs!!

It seems from researching the theatres that are attending StrawHats this year that many have already had initial auditions. I’m wondering how much work is really still up for grabs mid-March. Especially true summer stock work in a company with a summer season. Thoughts?
