My daughter did a paid summer equity gig last year for 19 weeks. Paid about $450 a week. She is cast in another equity show at a LORT B theatre coming up and it’s $150 a week (6 weeks). I’ll be glad when she gets her card. I think.
Daughter just texted me that she DID NOT get an audition for Strawhat! It was such a pain to send everything in that’s its very annoying not to get an audition! Not sure why she didn’t get one. She sent it in on time, but it was a couple of days before the deadline. She’s only a frosh, so not much college experience for resume. Still waiting on NETC. Starting to get nervous that she’s not even going to get an audition for them either… All you want is for them to have a chance to audition but now I’m wondering is she going to be waiting tables the summer? She’s dying to get started on earning her equity points… Disappointing, to say the least , that she didn’t get an audition at straw hat.
That’s great your daughter was cast! Still waiting on NETC- no audition from Strawhat- major bummer!
@Walker1194 Kudos to your daughter!
@Walker1194 having a card has it’s pros and cons. My D has had hers since she was 13. While it’s great that she can get seen at EPAs and ECCs, it’s hard for her to audition for summer work, as she can’t audition at NETCs or StrawHats or anything like that. She’s trying to squeeze in as many Equity auditions as she can, but it’s hard as most are during the week and, as a freshman, it’s especially hard for her to miss classes.
@duxellen Sorry about no Straw Hat audition for your D. My D still hasn’t heard. I saw on another thread that a lot of the same companies that are going to Straw Hat will be at NETC-- so fingers crossed for an NETC slot! My D is going to SETC in March. Straw Hat website says they receive twice the female apps as male apps, so the competition is much steeper for female perfomers, :(.
I heard NETC has sent out all of their invites. But this could just be rumor.
Curious about whether NETC/SETC, etc. always audition in the same towns/places? Thx
@stagedoormama – NETC has been in Natick, MA, and StrawHat has been at Pace for many years. Years ago NETC was at Tufts, and then in Boston proper, and StrawHat at Trinity School in NYC, but they are not like SETC which moves location yearly.
Does anyone know how important
the timing of the application is? Trying to determine if daughter was at a disadvantage because her applications were sent in literally days before the deadline. Hard to know if they reached capacity early on, or if they just thought her resume was “not impressive” enough since she’s only a frosh with no college performances yet.
@duxellen Timing is very important. But so is resume. If your D wasn’t invited to audition, it’s probably a bit of both. Straw Hat guidelines explicitly say the earlier, the better. When they reach their quota for your D’s “type”, they would stop reviewing those applications.
Timing is everything for Midwest Theatre Auditions. This year the applicants didn’t upload a resume or a descriptive paragraph. When the MWTA application opens, the slots are filled within 30 minutes. It’s all about being ready at the keyboard!
I don’t think stawhat had many spots left after mid December. D sent hers in Jan 10th and her professors said they would be shocked if she got an audition. But, she hasn’t gotten a no yet
@winnieroot My D sent hers in mid December and got her log-in on January 1. She doesn’t have a slot, but she doesn’t have a no yet either. The Straw Hat website says they look at and consider every application. Since the deadline was February 1, they may still have many to go through. If there were only a few spots left after mid-December, there may be many applications yet vying for those last few spots. It will be disappointing for her not to get a spot, but she will try to fill up the time with more auditions. It would just be nice to make travel plans since she will have to fly to NY. Que sera, sera!
D got notification that she got an NETC slot this morning
Same - NETC notification this morning.
My daughter sent her SH app in very late this year, like 1/5 I think. And she did get a slot. But she is a senior and has gotten 2 summer jobs from SH in the past, which helps. Also, though she could only do SH on the last day this year because her showcase conflicts with the first 2 days, I think she got about the last slot on the last day. Hopefully some good theaters will have stuck around!
My daughter sent in her SH app Thanksgiving week and found out today that she got a slot. She doesn’t know yet for which day.
Awesome/-congrats! Do you know when they mailed their app? My daughter mailed hers around Jan 25th.
Seems she has a standby spot for stawhat? She is too busy with rehearsals for me to ask a lot of questions
