Hey guys, I need to drive to Scripps/UCSD for two days (Thur and Fri), and I was wondering about street parking/free parking, preferably near Scripps. Which streets tend to be empty? I'm willing to walk a little (like 10 min). Or would it be worth it to shovel up $8 for parking? (Do they even have lots at Scripps?)

i wouldn’t try on-street parking … penniless grad students with years of experience in seeking all things free will have beaten you to the spots before you can even blink.

Looking at the map of campus, a permit would be the most convenient… so you can get a permit at any lot, but can 1-day visitors park in any lot? I’m specifically wondering about the one right south of Thurgood Marshall.

if you need to go to muir park on la jolla shores drive. if you need to park next to ERC or RIMAC park at the glider port (cant remember the street name). It will probably be a 5-10 minute walk to campus.

i think you can get the one day pass at the bookstore (or at least you used to). If not then you can get them at the parking office (at the bottom of gilman parking structure, there is free 10 min parking for the office on 1st floor so you can go buy passes). I wouldnt buy them at the lot itself, because they are only hourly (2 dollars an hour) and you can only buy a visitors pass after 4.30pm there.
