Curious if anyone knows how much weight is given to the midyear report. Daughter has a 4.16 uw (4.33=all A+s in HS). Taking the most number of APs allowed: AP BC Calc, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Eng Lang, AP Micro Econ, and Hon Physics--- mid year shows 4 A+s, 2 As. Looks like valedictorian, 2 year basketball captain and doing this during basketball season, 35 ACT; 750 Math 2c, 730 Chem, 710 Lit. I know it can't hurt, but can it help the low SAT 2s. Great rec's, ec's, and essays. Great work/interning experience. Anyone know the strength or weight of the midyear?

Hopefully a lot, because I did pretty well in some harder classes.

Hopefully a lot, since it boosted my GPA a bit.

Hopefully not a lot, because I got crap grades in some harder classes.

I'm just giving up on princeton now. With 3 Bs on my midyear, it won't help my app AT ALL. And I normally have As =[ I swear senioritis got the best of me >_<

I think it depends on the person. If you're already a strong student, the midyear report is, I think, more of a verification for the college that you're keeping up the hard work senior year. If you're more of an upward trend person and you're 1st semester senior year is your best yet, it could definitely help you out.

Yeah, all of that doesn't help.

If...
* I'm a pretty strong student.

Then...
* Verification that you're keeping up the hard work (I'm still taking ONE LESS of APs/Honors...because my school was like, sorry, we're scheduling like EVERY AP CLASS in the same periods, so you can't take AP Gov. fume)
** Upward trend (My trend's going down)
*** I got 3 Bs.

I have all reason to be pessimistic now. Regularly, I'm not, but this whole Mid-Year Report is bumming me down cuz I can't find anything optimistic about my situation... :(

I'm in a similar situations. I have been an A student all of high school (3.97uw gpa), and I got all A's in the first quarter of senior year. During the second quarter i got 2 B+'s and an A-(I'm in 5 APs and an independent study if that means anything). However, I have been doing a lot of extracurricular with strong achievements (debate, etc...). I am going to send in a letter about my recent accomplishments with the midyear report, but do you think this weak showing will hurt me a lot. Will they think I am a slacker that won't keep up the work, or that I am just taking a small break for college.

^ I hope they understand slightly worse midyears. Something tells me they won't cuz of the whole "we have 30k applicants and we won't let those things slip by".

I have a bunch of extracurrics w/ strong achievements too and I'm hoping that will save my application. My counselor didn't want me to send any extra material with the midyear, as much as I tried convincing her to. She was like "Oh, that's only if you get Fs and you suffered from mono or something."

what happens if we submit the report slightly after 2/15? Like they receive it 2/25, for example? Would that be bad since they said no later than 2/15?

i'm sure if you ask your GC to call ahead it should be okay...
especially if the circumstances are beyond your control
will your school not have them ready by 2/15?

ha ha i told my GC 1/15 cause they are so slow....got it out 1/20
