Ok, so in New York, there is a High School degree called "Advanced Regents Diploma with Distinction".

That is the best degree you can get, when compared with the inferior degrees which are just a "Regents Diploma" and "Advanced Regents Diploma".

To get this degree however, I need credits from various more regents tests.

What I am worried about is... Since I do not want to take the spanish regents (afraid I will not reach the 90 benchmark for the Advanced Regents Diploma with Distinction) because I doubt if I will get a 90+ on the regents (since I am not a spanish person).

Instead, our school has a CISCO (tech) course line, and the state mandates that if you do not take a foreign language regents, you can take 10 credits of tech in replacement.

So...

What I ask from you guys is that since my Guidance Counselor took off Spanish II from my schedule, I am worried it will effect my college admissions. My Guidance Counselor said that she put in Spanish in my schedule ( I was the only one in my class to basically get spanish) because she thought that colleges would favor if I take spanish all four years. Now that I cancelled Spanish for Tech, I am worried if I will be less favorable by colleges...

My schedule was full/packed so she couldn't possibly within her own power let me take both because they conflicted and I can't take more then 9 periods...

It’s not as much the spanish, but more in the foreign language department. I thought the same as my guidance counselor said that colleges like more then 2+ years of foreign language. I don’t know if 4 years of tech is required however.

Yeah, it’s an aggregate average of 90, however, at the moment, my aggregate score is 90.5%, so I can’t afford to get lower then 90 on any of my other regents.

My 8th grade regents were Earth Science and Algebra which were 88, and 87 respectively.

My freshmen regents were Geometry and Living Environment, which I got 94, 92 respectively.

So basically it’s a 90.5 if you average it out.

Also, foreign language regents are not required, but you need 10 credits of tech in replacement if you don’t take the test. Which is basically the problem. I thought colleges favor foreign language alot, but I do not know if they favor tech though. But I need the 10 tech credits for the Advanced Regents diploma, so I took Spanish out.

Spanish was my worst subject, I took the regents in 8th grade and got a 95 with perfect speaking and essays. It, in my opinion, was quite easy. And to the above post, learning Spanish or another second language is very useful.

However I already took a year of Music, so I hope that cuts the time I need in my CISCO Comp class out (which was basically what I meant by “tech”)

IDK, Japanese doesn’t even have a regent (I know there’s the LOTE) and there is no such thing as a tech class offered at my school.

But I still spoke to many people about it and you don’t need a language test anymore - and there was definitely no mention of having a class to take place of it.

Yeah, I am taking Alg/Trig now, and my teacher said my school has a very low passing rate. However she said if I get above a 85 (90+ is what I am aiming for, since I don’t basically have a choice on it, or I don’t get my Advanced regents diploma with honors) she’ll let me skip Pre-Calculus, and Regular Calculus and go straight to AP Calculus (many people don’t even reach regular calculus in my school).

That page you posted was last updated August 2010 - I’m trying to find out when languages were taken out of the requirement, which I’m sure was later than that.
