Okay, this is my first post... I've been a member for about 10 minutes. Haha, I don't know if its okay to post like this but here I go. I've been really stressed out (like it seems like most of you are). I applied to Columbia College E.D. and I don't know if its just wishful thinking. I read some of the stuff you guys did and its amazing. Maybe you could relieve some of my stress by honestly playing "admissions officer." lol.

My highest SAT scores: 690 verbal, 750 math
SAT IIs luckily don't matter, they are only for placement.
My weighted GPA is about 4.3, unweighted 3.4? I am ranked 10 out of 607.
I attend a suburban public high school, about 3000 kids. (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)
My essay was okay?
I'm Korean...
OH yeah, including this year... 8 APs, 9 honors classes.

My last semester of junior year I didn't get any A's. Still had a 3.6 though, and I still remain number 10.

I played tennis 4 years, 2 varsity. I started an anti-substance abuse club. I was the HOBY ambassador. I was class vice-president for 2 years. I'm in NHS. I was the "director of cultural affairs" for the multi-cultural club. I'm president of amnesty international.

No big awards or anything. I was a homecoming princess, I put that down. I got an award from the city council for volunteer work during the grand prix fires.

I had an interview and I think it went well...

Ok, You feeling stressed out? Here's some humor for lightening up:

Reason for acceptance #1 - you come from a place called RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA, you are right in line next to someone from Alaska or say....a certain "individual" from Singapore. =)

Reason #2 - "I was a homecoming princess", LOL I doubt many applicants will be able to say that, or at least CCers =) j/k.

But seriously speaking, if you want my 2 cents, your chances are ok. But then again, the adcom is known for unpredictibility.

Welcome and please stay on collegeconfidential to find out what crazy kids we are. =)

Hey, welcome :) I haven't sent in application yet but Columbia is close to my top choice. I figure they're busy right now so I'll wait a week or so... you know... til they're REALLY busy =/

About SAT IIs not mattering...everything the reader sees on your application, or in your file generally, does matter. Readers aren't machines and they aren't objective.

"a certain "individual" from Singapore. =)" haha that would be me right..delfire..?
but unfortunately singapore won't help me at ALL!! So many people apply to Columbia from Singapore.. and a lot of "presidential scholars" (a.k.a geniuses or.. gooons.. lol)

The competition from here is fierce.. let's just hope that I stand out from the locals..

Oh and.. I didn't ask you to talk about me.. You just started talking about me :) HAHAHAHA i must be addictive.. My English teacher always does say that I'm infectiously enthusiastic.. maybe that rubbed off on here too? lol frowns
If anyone does get annoyed or offended or both by my obssessiveness.. then i sincereley apologize - but u cant stop me lol..
I guess it's either love me or hate me..
And hopefully Columbia will love me!

o lordy.....and the "homecoming princess".. i sincerely hope that's not what u put on ur app.. hahaha. no.. actually on 2nd thoughts.. it may have been a good thing! might even help you!!! goodness me..
anyhow good luck fellow korean!

"O man if by some divine chance we both make it (I know I won't, hehe), we GOT to meet each other..hehe.
Silver, you are keeping this Columbia board alive and I honorably salute you. =)" --> Delfire - You are too funny lol :) Thank you for "honourably saluting me".. I'm glad that the Columbia board is live and kickin'!!!!
I think my flu is getting a bit better already lol.. Name's Christina btw.. yours? Oh, and if we do get in... I don't think it'll be complete "divine chance".. :) We'd be accepted because of our OUTSTANDING qualifications lol.. o boy, i'm getting excited already!!! just thinking about going to Columbia

"isn't prostitution legal in singapore? And chewing gum and some other "oral"-related activities ... illegal (if you catch my drift)?"

Yus.. I have to say. Prostitution is LEGAL in Singapore.. And the Red light district is "GEYLANG" (pronounced gAylang :) hehe not THAT funny but I laugh anyhow).
And yes I think "apparantly" oral sex (is that a illegal word on CC too?) is illegal in Singapore.
And the selling of chewing gum used to be illegal and most people do think it's still illegal. But there has been a slight change in law.... Licensed pharmacies/chemists and dentists now SELL "dental" chewing gum.. so it is available to buy here now..
Most people buy it elsewhere (ie. across the causeway in Malaysia).. and people do chew it everywhere (but I've heard people getting "fined" because of chewing gum in public).
:) And this is the weird and wonderful country that I live in!!! Please do visit.. lol

"Combine and have an antidote to depression from rejection"
hmmmm I WILL have to have some rehab therapy and counselling in case of a R.. but I trust that going off to Geylang will not be an answer for me lol..
I hope none of you consider that either lol.

"So does Rancho Cucamonga have a bad reputation? is it the name? haha, i never thought about the name... it's crazy!" - and lastly.. what ARE you talking about my dear?
