Ok so as the title suggests I am a very stressed out junior especially since I just look the SAT subject tests today and am nervous about how I did and that I am smack in the middle of ap testing time

For US colleges I thinking about- are my classifications pretty acurate?
GW- visited and loved (Target)
American (low Target)
Gtown- visited but I didn't particulaly like I don't know if I got a fair impression or not (reach)
Northeaster (target)
NYU (Reach or Target??)
Malcaster (Reach?)
William and Mary (Reach)
Denver u (Safety)
maybe boston university (safety

In Canada Im considering
University of Toronoto- basically a safety, but I really liked it when I visited and they have a great honors program Trinity one so I am wondering about my chances for it

Then In the UK- I know I am all over the place right now
LSE- super reach should I even bother applying?
King's College- for War Studies or International Politics- completely unsure here
St. Andrews- again I am not sure if it would be a reach or a target
Aberyswth
Maybe Edinburgh or Warwick- I really need more information about them

So my stats in short-
ECs- your average activities NHS, varsity tennis...ect. significantly I started a debate type club at my school, and I got a one of a kind internship over the summer in Nicaragua through my previous mission work with a non profit organization

GPA- 4.0
Rank top 10% hopefully it will stay that way my school is reallly competitive\
Loads of AP's and college classes- taking the hardest classes possible

My real weakness is test score
SAT superscore 1900 definately want to retake in the fall somemore but not sure how much I can improve
ACT 29 agian want to improve, realistically speaking maybe by one or two points
APs-
World History 4
APUSH, Macro Econ., AP Bio (a hopeless case since I had such a bad teacher), AP English- scores all pending here-
SAT Subject tests- scores pending
Im also going to try to take 6 or 7 aps next year but that will be too late for admission

When UK schools post scores do they super score? and is the score they post the minimum, meaning that you need higher scores to be a competitive applicant?

Anyone know the typical student type/ academic rep of theses schools?

I want to Study something along the lines of International Relations, Economics, War Studies, Peace Studies, Economic Development (the major really depends on the school)

Sorry the lack of info about ap scores, any info or opinions is greatly appreciated

Out of the schools you’re looking at, I was recently accepted to St Andrews, American, and Northeastern this year with just about identical stats and very similar ECs too. I’ll be attending St Andrews to study international relations. So in that sense, you’re definitely in range on a lot of your options, and the three in DC plus St Andrews that you listed are particularly strong in international relations. I’m pretty sure just about all of the schools you listed actually are at least respected in the field.

To help you trim your list a bit, you can always decide if you’d like an urban lifestyle (which it looks like you do by looking at the majority of your options) and if you want a large student body (Toronto, Northeastern, BU) or a medium or small one. Otherwise you’ll probably just have to visit the schools, and get a vibe for the surrounding area and people. No reason to be stressing though, you’re in good shape and have an excellent list.

My son is interested in U of Edinburgh so I know a little bit about their admission requirements for US students. (Just to confirm, you are a US citizen, right?)

I’ll paste the minimums here…

All subjects in the College of Humanities and Social Science and the College of Science and Engineering require completion of the High School Diploma, plus one of the following as a minimum requirement.

SAT score of 1800 (600 minimum in Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) plus two APs at Grade 4;
OR
SAT score of 1800 (600 minimum in Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing) plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum;
OR
ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum;
OR
ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two APs at Grade 4;
OR
Three APs at Grade 4 minimum.

A combination of AP and SAT subject tests are acceptable provided they are in different subjects, i.e. AP French and SATS Physics is acceptable as two qualifications but AP French and SATS French is only considered once.

As you guessed earlier, the better your scores, the better your chances. Since it looks like you won’t have many AP scores until the end of your senior year, you should work on getting your SAT or ACT score as high as possible.

Are you near Houston? Did you see that Edinburgh and Oxford are sending reps to Houston on 9/19 and 9/20?

Another useful source of information might be the UK competitor site to CC. I’ll write a long version here and you can figure out the real URL since CC won’t let me post it directly: the student room dot co dot uk.
