Stressed Senior. Chances?

Financially stable family, Asian-American that lives in Northern California. (Silicon Valley). Very good school, I'm pretty sure top 100 public in the country.

GPA. around 3.5 weighted. I finally forced myself to forget my unweighted GPA since its too painful for me to remember. (Above 3.0 though)

Classes:
APs and Honors: Chemistry AP, Biology AP, Chemistry Honors, Statistics AP, English Literature 12 AP, English 11 Honors.
Currently taking two science classes (Bio AP and regular physics) and taking calculus at a night class.

SATs/ACTs
Best SAT I Combined: 2100
ACT: Currently 32, writing portion hasn't come through yet.
SAT IIs: 790 Chemistry 780 Math IIc.
APs: Currently, 5 in AP Chemistry. Plan to take AP bio, stats, and lit test.

EC:
- JV tennis freshman year, Varsity tennis sophomore year, but stopped playing for team junior/senior year.
- Piano for around 9 years
- Kendo for around 2 years. Black belt and won 2nd place in national tournament
- Volunteer at a church every saturday

Not sure if I missed anything...

I'm planning on applying to UCs (I, D, SD, SB), Boston College, Boston U, NYU, Northeastern, and USC.

Much thanks guys

i dont know that much about the UCs, but id have to guess

UCSD- slight reach (in state)
UCD- match (in state)
UCI- match (in state)
UCSB- safety (in state)

BC- reach (though you have a shot because BC is known for SAT>GPA)
BU- match/slight reach (you would at least get into CGS)
NYU- (assuming youre not applying to stern)- slight reach
Northeastern- safe match

is nyu a slight reach because of the gpa?

yea, that gpa is a little low for NYU, but their general studies program is easier to get into

ckmets, I'm assuming you are a freshman at BC. It's fine if you don't feel comfortable sharing, but what was your SAT and GPA when you applied?

SAT: 2180/1500 (790 m 710 cr 680 w)
Rank: 38/449 (gpa was a 94.6 UW, i think i converted it to about a 3.85

BC was far from my first choice though

Might want to add Tufts and Holy Cross both very good in chemistry.

Your GPA, even weighted, is too low for Tufts. You can try, but know that it's a huge reach. Good luck!

tufts would even be a bigger reach than BC

Wow thanks everyone :D

Well, if I assumed that I did get into NYU, Boston C, or UCSD (Probably my top choices), I plan to major in Biochemistry. I heard that NYU isn't very strong in stuff like biochem, is that true? And what about BC?

Thanks again

yea youre right about NYU, the medical sciences arent the strongest there.

Biochem is actually really good at BC, we are getting very committed to improving the sciences here, and bio is already arguably the best department at BC. its definitely a good choice

L0ki:

UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Match

I've got a question, if one were to put a numerical value for reach and match, what would it be? Would reach be like 50-50 for a 'mediocre' reach or would it be more like 30-70? (This is a bump in disguise :))

UCSD: reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: slight reach/match

Reason: UC's are really number based. Your SAT is good, but your gpa is a bit too low for some UC's, although UCSB has accepted people with your gpa before so..you never know. Maybe if you write a really good essay, also your EC's are awesome, so I say go for it! :] btw, UCI and UCD have great bio programs...especially UCI, they're amazing.

I think youd be fine getting into BU.
