Stressing about VCU!

Okay, I applied to the VCU art school earlier this year right on the deadline and I was feeling pretty cobfident. But now, I've been looking around and I realize my art is absolutely NO where close to the average applicant. My art is pitiful when I compare to other portfolios. My portfolio has some really good pieces, and some really crap pieces. I had thought that my 4.5 gpa, tons of ap classes, and high sats would make a difference, but after looking over the admissions site, i don't tjink so. They specifically commented that low gpa is not always a true indicator of student success. I'm doomed! But I don't know what to do! I can't even sleep and when I do, i have nightmares! VCU's art school was my dream college and I'm sure that I don't stand a chance. Any advice? U

Did you apply anyplace else?

Yeah, but I don’t want to go anywhere else.

VCU is not difficult to get admitted to academically, and your GPA is far above the average. So you should be admitted on academics, no problem.

I know quite a few students who attend VCU; about five of them currently there studying art. I don’t think any of them won any high level art awards before going, and none of them studied drawing much. They are all very interested in becoming artists however.

If you don’t get into the art program, can you study the art major courses anyway and get admitted into the program later? I can’t imagine you not getting admitted academically.

I don’t think art majors need high SATs or GPAs. Even if you apply to a university that normally would require higher SATs than normal, if you’re an art applicant, they’ll take lower scores. They’re more interested in your portfolio, first and foremost.
