Hi. I am a senior in NY. I have not applied to college yet, but i have my essay, SAT scores all ready. I’m not sure how to apply. I have a common app and filled out some of the questions but i don’t know what to do next. also i know i need to send SAT scores too. Other than that i don’t know what else i need to do to apply. Also i filled out a transcript paper with all those schools below a month ago to my counselor.
650 on math and 550 in CR ( Did Horrible in Writing). Not the best but i think its alright for the colleges im applying to. Only took SAT twice.
Schools im applying to (NY schools only)
NYIT
Suny New paltz
Suny cobleskill
Suny Poly
Suny college at old westbury
Suny Delhi
Suny Buff State
also Gpa is 88 for 9 - 11th grade
Anyways I stressing out b/c most people i know have applied already. I have not missed any deadlines.
Please help! My counselor just came back from a month vaca Prob will talk to him sometime this week, guessing he will be busy so i will be lucky to get a chance to see him.
At this point i’m thinking about community college. Would be easier and less stressful. No idea what i’m doing to be honest.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
A. Almost all application deadlines have passed
B. Move this to chances
C. You’re probably fine
@awesomepolyglot
All apps deadlines have passed? For Suny Poly there website says July 15 for Regular application deadline. So confused…
There is no formal deadline per the SUNY application, but they recommend that you apply by Decenber 1 to maximize you odds of admission to your major of choice, housing, and financial aid. Some of the colleges do have deadlines for specific programs. So you are quite late – go see your counselor ASAP.
Wow… Alright will try my best to see him tomorrow. Might as well go to Com Col. waste of time taking the SAT i guess. Oh well.
So is there still a point in applying ?
Do not panic! It is good that you are interested in going to college. If you want to be in college in the fall, you can be in college in the fall. Don’t let people on CC discourage you! There are a lot of people on this site whose parents have attended to every last detail in their lives. There are others who are parents setting the stage for their children at every point and in every way. There are also people who are simply interested in education, educators and students who are in the midst of the application process themselves. So people may view applying in January or February as late. But it is not too late. I am guessing that you don’t have a lot of support or you don’t have parents who attended college who can help you with the process. So, as intparent says, on Monday morning, go to see your guidance counselor. See if he/she will help you finish the application on line-at least answer the questions you are stuck on. See if the GC will help you develop a solid plan to apply to the various schools you are interested in and to apply for financial aid. Yes there is still a point in applying. And, while community college can be a good option, there may be others that are better for you. Work that our with your GC. Don’t get discouraged! Don’t be fatalistic! It is not a waste of time to take the SATs or ACT’s. Stop the negativity and kick yourself into action. It can be overwhelming if you try to do it yourself. You need advocates. Go visit your GC!
I apologize, I was unaware that there weren’t formal deadlines.
By no means would you be only able to go to a CC.
Also, be absolutely honest with your GC. You may want to put on a good front but your GC needs to know you are doing this alone and you don’t know how to move forward. Be very straight forward. You are much more likely to get genuine help by laying it on the line.
@lostaccount
Thanks for that ! Feeling really stressed out! Nothing wrong with com col. DCC( the com coll i would be going to if i needed to) is actually one of the best in NY state.
I need to relax . Will talk to my GC tomorrow!
@awesomepolyglot
Yes. But i will have to get my license before college starts. Still enough of time so not stressing over that.
You have a high B+ average and top 30% SAT scores. You’ll get into most if not all the colleges listed.
Apply to Geneseo also, you never know.
