Stressing over the transfer process from CC, help!

Hello, Im currently at Santa Monica College and would like to obviously transfer in the near future. I have just hit some bumps in the road and I have no idea what route to take at this point.

I am a 2nd year CC Student (20 yrs old)
GPA is a 2.6 right now (2.4 for UC) - I KNOW this is terrible, but it's like this because last Fall a series of unfortunate circumstances struck me and I was unable to finish strong.

I have 2 W's and am probably getting a 3rd one this semester, do these matter?

I have AP Test credit from Highschool (3 tests)

I am in the 40ish units range that are on the IGETC counting my current units (16 at the moment, going to be 13 soon).

I live VERY far from Santa Monica (1 hour daily commute) and I live considerably closer to Cerritos and Long Beach. I want to go to UCLA or UCI or UCSD, so does where I attend matter? If I transfer to another CC, do I get lower priority than everyone else when it comes to class registration?

I have a D on my transcript and will re-take the class this summer. I also have an F but it's for a PE Class (I have taken 3, and the other 2 were A's, does this matter?)

I am just really stressing over this whole thing and I feel no sense of real direction. What should I do to get back on track as soon as I can? The counselors are booked until next week and every time I go for a drop-in they just tell me to come back next week. I would really appreciate some help, I'm going crazy! :( thank you for your time!

To be honest, you probably won’t be able to get into UCLA, UCI, or UCSD because you’re already at 40 units with a 2.4. You can only recover so far with 20 units to go. But try to get straight A’s to see if you can get a 3.2+ and mid tier UCs are certainly a possibility. W’s don’t matter at all, I have like 7 and got into all the schools I applied for. D’s and F’s don’t matter as long as you retake them. Good Luck.

Yeah I have to agree with @MAXsays. I don’t think you’ll likely get into UCLA or UCSD, but UCI may be a possibility still if you can raise your GPA to at least 3.0. But there’s also the matter of what you plan on majoring in. If it’s something in the sciences, it’s going to be really tough to get into almost any of the UCs.

I definitely agree with the people above me. I’ve gotten more than a handful of W’s, so honestly I don’t think they’re too much of a big deal. Same thing with F’s an D’s (I got 1 F in a health course) re-took it and the F wasn’t factored in. UCLA and UCSD may be a possibility if you retake your courses including the D, get straight A’s from now on, write an AMAZING personal statement, and have lots of extra circulars. UCI seems very doable, but you really have to work your butt off from here on out to even have a shot at these top tier colleges.

Thank you for the replies! I am re-taking the D I got and will retake the W I’m getting this semester. I don’t really have many EC’s. I did write for the school newspaper 1 semester though and got 10 articles published. I dont know if I can factor that in?

Would USC be a possibility?

Also, no one really answered, but if i transfer to another CC, do I have to get the lowest priority for enrollment? Cause I really want to transfer out for Fall, but I dont want to start from the bottom, just scraping everyone’s leftovers.

I’m actually not sure about that. Try calling and asking someone at the CC you want to transfer to.

Enrollment dates are generally done by the amount of units you have completed at the CC. So yes, you probably will have a very late enrollment date if you happen to go to another CC.
