I have been reading through these forums for a while and have noticed how many AP classes some people have when they are applying to top universities. The year that our class reached high school, there was a new curriculum that doesn't allow for us to really have much say in what classes we take, most of it is already lined up for us. Freshman year, we had one elective to choose, and I took art to fill one of the graduation requirements. (Even though I hated it, lol.) Sophomore year we had two electives, so I started taking Spanish so I could have three years of it, and one semester of gym to fill a requirement and the other semester was online French, which is a whole separate story, lol. So next year (I'm a rising junior), we have two electives again so I'm taking Spanish 2, and advanced biology. I was originally going to take AP Psych so I could have an AP class, but I really enjoyed biology last year so I chose advanced bio instead, and also because I want to go into a science career so I thought would be a better route. So next year I will have advanced bio and chem and pre-calc, but none are AP. The weird thing is that our school doesn't have AP bio or chem but rather the "advanced" version, but I am taking the AP test anyway because some people do that to get the credit. I will take as many AP classes possible during senior year, but obviously won't have the scores to show on time for my applications. So basically after all that, my question is will schools look down on not taking any official AP classes junior year, but having one AP test score? And do you think picking biology over AP Psych was the right choice? Sorry for the really long post, it's just all these requirements can get really annoying, lol. Oh, and we don't have honors classes either. Or AP language courses. :(

Don’t be daunted by the number of APs some students take, you will be evaluated based upon what your HS offers. Your HS profile should explain how the curriculum is structured and your GC will be able to address the reason why you are lacking in APs.

I personally would agree with taking advanced Bio and taking the AP exam (and take the SAT Subject test at the same time). AP Psych is one of the “softer” APs and since your HS doesn’t offer AP Bio it shows that you are extending yourself by taking the exam (just be sure to study and do well, a 4 or a 5).

Is there any way you could take some CC classes to strengthen your academics?

Colleges and universities will look at your high school record in the context of your particular school, as admissions folk are aware that all high schools do not offer the same curriculum.

Ok, yeah our school got rid of the dual enrollment thing they had with a local college, but I will probably take a couple classes there next summer. Thanks for your input :)
