strictness on rescinding admission

Wow. I didn’t graduate high school until June 26th.

Enjoy your summer. Lincoln at Gettysburg should be a good read.

AP chem was rough last yr, man. In my hs, I got 5 on 7 APs, 4 on 2 APs, and I got a 2 on AP Chem. Granted, that was one class I hated and didn’t study as hard for and I just walked into the exam cold. others also told me that the exam was tougher than expected. But, thankfully, I didn’t get rescinded.

omg..AP tests have nothing to do with admissions, stop confusing people.

That’s not true. If you get a 5 on your pre-senior year AP tests it will look favorably upon you. If you get a 2, it will not.

scores aren’t sent until you get in, unless you intentionally have them sent earlier. I did not send mine until after my senior year AP tests.

Wow. My memory is getting old. Can you pick and choose what scores you want sent to a college you senior fall?

I can’t remember if my AP scores were on my HS transcript…I think they were and so colleges would see them anyway…even if I didn’t send an official score report.

you can’t pick which scores to send, but I chose to send them after I got in. it might be different for different schools, who knows. I’m just talking based on my experience, but if they see the scores before you get in, then, yeah, they might have an impact on your acceptance.

damn i am getting a 1 on 3 out of 4 tests! (I basically slept through them all)
but i am pretty sure that they cant care about AP exams…that would be unfair

Cornell does not care about AP’s taken at the end of sophomore year

drewdrop, so are u saying they can rescind applications based on senior year APs?

I don’t think Cornell cares about your AP performance at all.
I don’t think getting a couple Ds would get your application rescinded.
If you are absent/tardy in HS, they definitely won’t care at all.

Unless you drop below straight Cs and fail multiple classes, or get convicted of a serious crime, I would image you would only receive a probationary status your first semester, that is to say they would require you to get a 3.0 GPA. That is not hard to do unless you don’t do your work.

If Cornell would rescind admission to ppl whose grades dramatically dropped, does it mean it will offer admission to waitlisted students to fill these spots? Let’s say you your IB scores went from predicted of 40 to actual score of 43, would that give u a big edge in getting in?

I’m not so sure about that. As it stands now, i think Cornell (somebody correct me if I’m wrong) is already a bit over-enrolled. Something around 3200 students accepted Cornell’s offer; I think Cornell aims for a class of around 3050. But it really all depends on the college.

wow…I made a huge typo in my last post…didn’t have my glasses on :-)

AP scores from before you apply can matter…anything taken at the end of senior year will not cause your admission to be rescinded if you do poorly. Heck…when I applied for transfer Cornell saw an AP exam I took senior year and screwed up on…and I still got in.

The only grades that could cause your admission to be rescinded are those in the actual course.

thanks a lot for correcting that ! I was pretty worried until now.

If there has been extenuating circumstances that have affected my grades (although I do not think that I am in the dreaded d-zone), should I send a letter to the Admissions Office explaning my situation?

dont do it unless u have more than 2 Cs or below 3.0 gpa

I wouldn’t take initiative in drawing attention to sub-par grades. I think you should be fine.

i think u all will be fine. quit worrying. i actually got a letter the summer before entering Cornell saying that they were disappointed with my one “C” in calc .. lol … opening that letter and reading it made me chuckle. i asked others in my floor frosh year and many got several C’s and such. but its not to say to slack off at all … but u guys will be fine!
