STRIDE Humanities?

Is the STRIDE scholarship for science research only?

No, there are humanities projects as well.

Cool, thanks!

A first-year Stride student receives a list of projects in very different fields and makes a classified choice of five. Around July, the head of the program notifies the student about which project she has been assigned to. The second year, it is quite easy if you want to change, to ask any professor if they are willing to take you on. My D is in the humanities, and was assigned not to her first or second choice, but to the project for which she was the best fit because of her skills. This year, her advisor was on sabbatical, so she shopped around herself.

Thanks for detailing the procedure. I would be interested in social science research as well, although not with as much passion, but I’d really rather do nothing at all than do a science experiment. :/

Keilexandra, did you get the email from Peter de Villiers, the STRIDE coordinator? He sent one out that included the list of descriptions of last year’s STRIDE projects. Believe me, there is absolutely no risk of you being forced to do a science project if you don’t want to. There is quite a selection of humanities and even a few fine arts projects. If you haven’t gotten that list, feel free to PM me and I can forward the email to you.

^ I should clarify that I’m a HS junior applying for Fall 2010, not an admitted student.
