My daughter is mostly interested in art schools -- SAIC and Otis are among her top choices -- but a friend suggested she also find a BFA program or two at some non-art schools to apply to. (This friend was admitted to RISD but ended up at Syracuse because the FA was much better, and has no regrets, as she's now a art professional.) The problem is that for the most part, the LACs only offer a BA in their art department, and the bigger schools often have anemic art programs or allow for less than half the studies to be in art. I keep reading that "some" BFA programs are structured such that students spend 70-90% of their coursework in the Art department, but I haven't found any programs like that.

So, does anyone know of any of these mythical programs that forgo things like foreign lang req, upper division math, etc? Programs I'm thinking of would be within the context of a larger college or university setting, but would be structured more like an art school, with a foundation year, etc. Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Art is a great example.

We're expecially looking for A) Programs on the West Coast, B) Interdisciplinary programs, and C)Strong need-based aid. (She's an EFC=0.)
