Yes, In terms of Business applicants from my school, I am the 2nd or 3rd strongest applicant, and there is no ED/EDII clash.
Somewhere in finance/ technology. I have done some internships in market sided roles, which were interesting and illuminating for me.That is one of the reasons I chose my preferred locations as NY/Cali.
Do you plan to return to Indiaā¦or do you think you will be able to stay in this country after you get your degree.
Tagging @Catcherinthetoast who might be able to provide some decent insight on your potential major and your college listā¦and your potential to be employed here (if that is your hope).
If I do get into a college, I may pursue a STEM-OPT eligible degree in order to work longer, although I am not completely sure of how the process works. I would prefer 3-4 years of work experience, after which I see myself returning to India. However, as a 18 Year old, I donāt think I have a concrete idea of what I will think about the same at the end of college.
Thank you!
@MYOS1634 can you explain what getting a job after graduation for this international student might require?
Frankly, this list is lazy. Just a list of the Top 21 most prestigious schools known internationally(minus MIT and Caltech). They are very different from one another. You have small and large, urban and rural, open curriculum vs. core, cold vs. hot climate, east coast, west coast, south. And that isnāt even getting into the different curriculums for your major. How do you expect to write quality essays on āwhy this school?ā or similar for this diverse list of 21 schools? You need to cut back.
That is mean.
What is wrong with that?
I think the overwhelming majority of applicants could be happy at a small or large, urban or rural, hot or cold climate, open or core curriculum school in any part of the country.
@anikit-college Take a look at Boston College Carroll School of Managment. They are generally regarded as a 15 finance program and have top 25 placements with Investment Banks and Consulting firms.
Many donāt like USN but it is what it is.

A 6 is an A so youāre good and AA SL includes calculus but it may be a good idea for you to have a rec from your math teacher whoād include a summary listing of the key topics (e.g., sequences& series, Log and exponential equations, differentiation, integration, kinematic ruleā¦) as well as the predicted 7.
Thank you!
My opinion, obviously. Not meant to be mean. And I explained what is wrong(your word, not mine) with that. It will be very difficult to write quality essays to all of these schools. Most of them have multiple essays. The grades and test scores are good, but not great, so the essays will matter a lot for this student. Iām suggesting trimming the list to manage the workload.
As someone who has been in a roughish boarding school for the past 6 years, I am of the belief that I can adapt to any kind of situation I am presented with. I have done my research, and the only universities that were not a fit for me were CalTech and MIT, simply because I thought that I would not fit in with the student population and the general STEM based mindsets of the school.
Also, from the general understanding that I have of finance is that prestige is one of the most important factors for the industry. Please do correct me if I am wrong, but most of my cousins and relatives in the USA High Finance field told me that even schools like UNC Chapel Hill and Notre Dame may not be good enough for some fields of High Finance, which has been another factor that has influenced my list.
I started on the essays around 2-3 months back. I am done with all my EAs, NYU, Cornell, U Chicago, along with 13 other RD schools. I am mostly just focus on iterating and working with my essay counsellor to finish it up now so, to be very honest, I am not seeing the workload as a massive problem.
Ok, great! Glad that you have it all managed. Good luck to you!
So, thatās it? You just want to know if your shotgun strategy is a good one? Sounds more like a āI have nothing to loseā strategy.
You might want to read this thread. Itās older, but actually admissions have become even harder. No one expected the student to be shut out everywhere he applied the first timeā¦very top student (SAT score was close to 1600), top of class, national merit finalist, excellent ECs. And he was an U.S. citizen. And he applied to all reach schools really. You have your colleges in India as sure thingsā¦but you really donāt have any U.S. schools on your list that are. Consider that.
There are other less competitive schools where your goals could be met. Iāll mention two I know ofā¦Fordham in NYC is one. Southern Methodist University in Dallas is another. SMU might not land you an IB job in NYC, but there is no guarantee you will get that anyway.
Your list is reach heavyā¦
You could be shut out here like this kid was. Read the whole threadā¦
Donāt underestimate the impact of getting many rejections. Youāre for sure a strong applicant but all the colleges youāre applying to are lottery schools, totally unpredictable. Perhaps add CUNY Baruch Honors (they place very well but arenāt hospitable to non NYers) even if you donāt intend to go and/or Fordham Lincoln. These acceptances would just be a way to save face in a way and would make it easier to choose Indian universities.
OPT: some heavily quantitative finance fields count for extended Opt; econometrics definitely does.
To some extent, I would say it is. I wanted to understand some additional questions about my SAT and GPA, but the comments here have taught me that acceptance to any of the colleges I am applying to, even as a full pay applicant, are a lottery.
So, I am considering 2-3 target/safety colleges in good locations so that I have transfer opportunities, and still get good exposure in my time there. I will probably go for the IU Bloomington School Nominated Scholarship, along with a couple other scholarships to some lower tier colleges.
Thank you very much
