To any current Tulane students, parents, or prospective students:
What do you guys know about Programs and majors at Tulane? I'm trying to get a feel on whether or not my interest match that of Tulane. I'd like to double major in French and International Relations, (perhaps some italian thrown in there somewhere). But I change my mind a lot so nothing is set in stone.
Also, any input about internships, study abroad, etc?
Thanks so much!

Tulane tends to be strong in the humanities in general, and I know French is a strength. Obviously there is a connection to the French language in New Orleans and southern Louisiana, and there are a lot of historical documents in French in the Tulane library. I don’t know as much about IR, but I would say that for the kinds of areas it appears you like, Tulane has very good programs. I think you will find the same thing for most schools that are similar in character to Tulane. I think it is much more important to go to where you feel the school is right for you in size, academic capabilities of your fellow students, climate, sports, Greek life, etc. whatever is important to you besides your potential major. The profs and courses will meet your needs unless you are looking for something really unusual.

As far as study abroad, Tulane has some great programs, and they can also help you coordinate with programs sponsored by other schools, such as Middlebury. I can tell you anecdotally that I helped match up an architecture student from Wash U St. Louis, where they didn’t have an architecture study abroad in France, with Tulane, who does.

the French department has a really good reputation. i don’t know too much about IR, but i would look into International Development. i know several people majoring in it and it’s a really solid program here. there are TONS of study abroad opportunities.
