Focus is going to be on the upward curve in my weight GPA. Chance me for all UC's please? Also, probably going to take an additional class at a community college over summer (comp sci or something). Thanks!

bump… 253 views and no chances :|

You can probably pull off UCLA and UCSD… Cal might be a slight reach, because of your GPA

Even with a GPA like that, you think I can get UCLA/UCSD?

Honestly, if I get into any of: UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCSD, I’ll be overjoyed. My EC’s are weak too, so I just can’t see myself hitting schools like that.

Trust me. I know some **** at our school at had around a 3.2 weighted, he got a 2310 on his SATs (by cheating, hence I called him a ****), had no ECs, and made it into UCSD. You’re a viable candidate, seeing as they weigh a TON in on the SATs. Trust me, you should be fine.
If ANYTHING, I’m gonna call for SURE Irvine and Davis. UCSD is a match/slight reach, UCLA is a slight reach, and Cal is a bit of a reach.

Daaaaamn, that’s huge motivation haha. Thanks bro. Any other opinions would be appreciated too?

Honestly, within these last few years, admissions (especially to top schools+UC’s) have gotten ridiculously competitive. This means that fewer people who are extremely lopsided like you will have a chance. In fact, I know a kid who had 2300 SAT, 800 math II, 750 USHis, 730 bio, difficult schedule, and excellent extracurriculars who only made the waitlist for UCSD and UCD. I don’t mean to completely ruin your day, but it’s important to remember that admissions are getting more competitive every year, and lopsided applicants are often ignored for more well rounded ones.
UC Berkeley: High Reach
UC LA: Mid-High ish Reach (I know there will be people who disagree with me, but this year, I know plenty of applicants with 4.1+gpa’s, 2300+SAT’s, and strong ec’s that were waitlisted)
UC SD: mid-high match
UC Davis: match
UC Irvine: match
With that being said, don’t be discouraged! Essays are also important, and if you have financial/personal issues, the UC’s are usually very understanding. Best of luck!

Thanks! I’m glad both you said that Irvine and Davis are matches, I was fearing that my EC’s and GPA were just too low to let me get in. Any other opinions?

You have junior grades? Is that 4.5 capped? What is your UC GPA? How many A-G’s? How many honors and AP’s? I don’t have an answer, but that stuff seems to matter way more than SAT’s

My son had an awesome upward trend, going from a 2.0 end of First semester sophomore year, to 4.0 end of second semester junior, barely eking out a 3.1 UCGPA. Wait listed, then in at UCR. His SAT was not like yours! Good luck!

Well, a UC GPA is simply the average of all the ones you see there, my A-G courses are well over the minimum, so don’t worry about that. GPA is listed as unweighted (4.0 scale) and then weighted in parenthesis (5.0 scale). AP’s and honors courses that are weighted are reflected in the weighted GPA’s, I’m too lazy to type them up lol.

Well the only thing that might be flawed for my chancing of your schools is that my school is a feeder school to USC, UCLA, and UC Berk… But UCs are heavily geared towards SATs and GPA

^^ I thought 4.4 was the highest capped UC GPA, except at UCLA, where it might be 5.0. For several schools, As you can see in my link in post number 9 and below, the more A-G’s you take ,the better the admission rate. Same fir the number of weighted classes, even though only 8 of them can be weighted for you UC GPA. Anyway, I’m not chancing ( too lazy to type it out…jk…) so no need to type them out for my benefit; just something to think about.

UCLA

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof11.htm

You are better off applying to USC than the UCs. From reading CC for years, I would say, you have a small chance at UCI unless you have some really difficult situation that you can add to your application. This year, I read at least 2 students on CC with 2300+ and 4.0 uw GPA and 4.2 UC GPA were waitlisted from UCLA.
Add more safeties is my advice.
