What are considered to be the strongest departments at Pomona? (Strongest are not necessarily most popular).

Thanks

I'd also like to know this.

Also, I know that probably all of Pomona's departments are strong, but what are the strongEST? And what would you consider the weakest (if any)?

This is probably hard to answer, due to the fact that most people probably can't give an opinion on more than three departments, but please try!

:)

Econ, Politics, Chem and Bio are among the strongest

what is different from a liberal arts school and a university?
if i planned to go to pomona for a neuroscience major, will the college, being a liberal arts school, not be the best choice?
thanks!!

A university provides a number of schools or colleges that offer intensive study in a variety of areas at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Universities usually include a college of liberal arts or a college of arts/letters and sciences. This is analogous to a liberal arts college. (Harvard University has Harvard College as its undergraduate school.)

The advantage of a liberal arts school is that you will have much better access to faculty members and to research opportunities than you might at a university. There, those opportunities usually go first to graduate students.

It all depends on what you're looking for. Good luck!

Often universities will have colleges that focus on a certain field, and have programs that act as majors and give pre-professional training for a specific set of jobs. The concept behind a Liberal Arts education is that you won't leave with the skills to step out into the world and perform one job really well, but have the skills to easily apply yourself to a range of jobs and have a foundation to learn the necessary skills for any number of them. Think hands-on experience vrs. theoretical knowledge, one is more imediatly useful, but the other applies to a wider range of applications.

Pomona specifically would be good for neuro, as they just opened a whole new neuro/cogsci/psychology center, with tons of state of the art equipment. I also know they are planning on expanding the faculty in this area.
