Struggling bad

This semester has been a really tough semester for me. I have been getting consistent Cs and Ds on some of my tests no matter how much I study. I was unable to get approved to have one of my courses withdrawn today, so there's a chance I'll have a D on my transcript.

Does ND let their students retake a course at a later semester to possibly replace this grade?

I think you can retake some courses as many times as you want no matter what grade you get. For others, you need to get below a certain grade before they will allow you to retake it. I think you can find some of this information on insideND or maybe from your advisor. However, if you retake a class after dropping it after the drop date or getting a bad grade for the semester, both grades will appear on your transcript. I would recommend that you talk to your advisor and see what your options are. Also, if you’re a freshman, FYS has free tutoring. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!

It may seem really obvious, but if you are consistently getting Cs and Ds on tests, no matter how much you study, be sure to:

1) talk to your professor AND your TA
2) look at the tests to detect where you have weaknesses, look for patterns of mistakes
3) change your way of studying. Redo notes after each class, outline and summarize, know exactly what’s being tested, etc.
4) be sure to get plenty of rest

Before you do anything you need to find a quiet place and reflect on what it is that is causing you to perform below your expectations. Make a list. It might include anything from stress, flawed study skills, poor reading and comprehension, health issues etc. You name it, write it down. Then go to your professors with a clear understanding of your weaknesses and work out a gameplan. You might be able to work out some sort of personal plan with them involving extra credit. Who knows, some might let you retake an exam.

I echo the previous posts and highly suggest you speak with your advisor and a counselor. This all probably seems overwhelming but you need to know that your tuition dollars are working to fund resources that can be of tremendous insight and benefit to you. Seek them out. Good luck.

I do not believe that you can retake classes unless you fail them…

ND will work with you. Reach out for help to your counselor, professors, and TAs. Get a tutor if necessary. It hurts your pride, but your grades will go up and your stress will go down.
