Hi all

I don’t have a knack for History, and I’ve been failing the first two quizzes my teacher’s been giving us this past week.

I honestly don’t know how to study for APUSH besides reading, taking notes, and trying to memorize everything I read. Perhaps I’m not tackling that strategy very effectively? I usually have problems answering questions that could not have been answered unless I read the chapter carefully, and questions that seem to have more than one right answer.

I’d appreciate it if anyone had any tips to studying or could link me to previous posts dealing with APUSH study tips.

Thanks.

Taking an interest in the APs you take is key. If you can make games to help you then that can really help. Even play computer games on the time period (ex. Native American war games can help with learning the tribes/Civil war games and Generals or Battles). Make it fun and you can always ask your teacher for help (although less so in History)

Have you looked to see if your textbook has an online student resource provided by the publishers? If it does, look for outlines, lecture notes, chapter quizzes. All of these may help you to reinforce what you read. Also, you ought to look through the APUSH Course Description published by College Board to understand the “big picture” that, one hopes, your course intends to follow:

If you look at the sample M/C questions, you’ll note that they are fairly broad in approach, requiring one to know several facts and concepts to answer each one correctly.

Finally, if you are struggling because the textbook is too dense and cumbersome to read, then you might consider purchasing an APUSH review book to supplement your reading. There is consensus on CC that the AMSCO book is thorough and good, but is essentially another textbook. You might also look at the REA book:
