Hello! This is my first time posting! I enjoy economics and math, but am struggling to decide about what to major in.
Here are my top choices:
Dual Major Econ and (applied?)Math, Minor CS?
Econ Finance,
Econ CS
etc.
I love Economics but have heard that many people in t20s dual major or minor in some other topics. I do love math, so I thought that could be an option. I’m not so sure about Finance because I haven’t really researched it but it looks interesting. And I like CS too, but would like to Major in Economics so a minor or dual major CS wouldn’t be out of the question. I think I can handle it, but I just wanted some input. Thank you all so much!
The good news is that economics and math go together if you want to study economics at an advanced level (e.g. PhD study).
For CS, be aware that it may be more difficult to have a second major if CS is engineering-based (with additional non-CS science requirements and engineering requirements). Also, CS is commonly a more selective major when applying to college (or when an undeclared student in college wants to declare a major).
Just because many people dual major doesn’t mean that you have to. If you really love economics, it is perfectly fine to just major in that. You can leave yourself room to take lots of math classes, since a strong math background benefits an economist; you can take classes in the other fields as electives or to fulfill general education requirements.
