Hi I'm a current Junior student. I'm struggling with the choice of whether to do an internship or go for a study abroad program this summer. I know internship is very important since I will also apply to graduate school later, but I always want to do a study abroad program to see a new country. So can anyone give some suggestion which one should I choose? Thanks a lot. I'm very struggling now!

Intern abroad? It would be like two in one. You seem business-y-ish, so you could try to intern at an international consulting group. For example, I think Monitor Group is doing an info session tomorrow for summer undergrad internships overseas (check career center for more details).

Depends on what you want to do for your graduate study… I would say do whichever that would prepare you more for graduate school… what do plan to major in? also, if you choose to study abroad, what country do you plan to go?

I vote study abroad. An internship would be useful for getting a job, but you’ll get a job eventually anyways. However, your chance to study abroad will be nearly lost once you graduate.

I major in economics and plan to study in U.K. this summer.

Hi WeAreHereAndNow: Thanks for the information, I have been to the info session today and there are like more than a hundred applicants attended. I think the opportunity and idea of doing an internship abroad are great, but I believe their acceptance rate is very low. One of their representative said they only get the best from all the applicants. So I believe my chance to get into those program is pretty small. But still thanks for the information.

What kind of graduate school do you want to apply to? An internship may not help as much as you think.

I want to try to apply those top ones like Princeton, Yale, MIT, NYU,and Berkeley. Also I’m not sure what their admissions will focus on the most. Is it the order most like GPA, then GRE scores then internship exp and personal statement? Please correct me if wrong. thanks a lot.
