I recently transferred from a community college with a 4.0 GPA ... however I am at USC and had to start working part time ... My grades are dropping ... astronomically ..... any help for a struggling Marshall student?

Find help now. You were assigned a professional academic advisor. Let this individual know right away you are having trouble coping. Discuss with your advisor options such as tutoring, peer counseling or study groups. Is the job absolutely necessary? Are you taking too many units?

There is support for you. Perhaps you need help on time management. See your advisor as soon as possible.

Haha i seem to be doing a little better … It’s just depressing seeing C’s when ive never had lower than an 88 in CC … lol I think I’m doing ok now have 1 B+ and rest are A-/A’s … had to study all night to get 100% on Econ midterm and Bus Stats to make up for the earlier horrible grades =\ … thanks I think next semester I’ll take advantage of the tutoring …

Good to hear. That was good advice, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg and I would never rely on just an advisor (some are good, some are bad). Go to office hours. Office hours are usually under-utilized by students.

This should be a lesson to all would be cc transfers: USC is a university, and most ccs hand out As like Halloween candy; USC does not. I would expect that most cc transfers will have a wake up call during their first semester at USC (the same cannot be said of university transfers in general). That said, no one should be working more than 20 hours per week while enrolled at USC full time; that is a recipe for disaster, regardless of whether you are a high school matriculant or Harvard transfer.

Great work Transfer2013! After your initial adjustment, you’re doing awesome!

Once again, SeattleTW is to be ignored.

I transferred from a cc with a 3.9 and am working hard and earning a 3.7 so far this semester. Also, I have many friends who have transferred from cc and we are all working hard and doing great. We are also enjoying the great social life at SC!

Fight On!
