Sts 101

I'm planning on transferring from VT to UVA next fall and attend the E-school. Since I got a 4 on AP Lang and 5 on AP Lit, I did not have to take English 1105 or 1106 (freshman english) either semester. However, my AP Lang test does not test me out of STS 101, which I should've taken my first year at UVA. Since I will have to take it my second-year if I transfer, will this hurt me at UVA? Is it a major pre-requisite for second-year classes?

STS 101 is not a prerequisite for any class except for the other STS classes you have to take which are one 200 or 300, 401, and 402. The 400s are for your thesis your fourth year and the 200 or 300 is an inbetweener for 101 and the 400s.

so if im currently taking a humanities class, and have AP credits that would transfer as humanities, i could essentially take STS 101 first semester, then take the second-year course second semester, and be caught up?
thanks so much for helping =) this question was killing me

Also be aware you can substitute sts101 with an hss course if you have a good (730+ i want to say, but check) sat2 writing score or maybe 4 on the lang exam.

its a 5 on the lang AP and i got a 4 on the lang and 5 on lit =( and a 730 verbal?? yeahh, im an engineering major for a reason =P i got 730 on math, 690 verbal

Credit is indeed 5 on language. I wasn't talking about credit, I was talking about an HSS substitution. Ditto if you read again I never said anything about verbal, just writing.

Reading skills go a long way.

my bad, i ment to say the writing section. the SAT2s were kind of a blur for me, but i only got a 690 on the writing (i did better on US history somehow....it was kind of sad haha). and what do you mean by a hss course?

im not sure if you can answer this question, but if someone else can, how do UVA E-school transfers declare their major? I know that first-years declare in april...do i just "declare" when i sign up for classes over the summer?

humanities social sciences
I'd suggest taking a look at whatever major requirements that you're thinking of, might be useful for planning.

Depends on the major. In all cases fill out a form from thn a122, but if you're applying for a few select majors you also need a particular application form for those majors and approval from the appropriate department (for which youc an either chase down the appropriate professor or wait until the time they do them for first years, depending on the dept).

im planning on electrial engineering
