TCNJ is renovating freshman dorms next year, entirely new electrical. There is wifi everywhere else on campus and with the renovation it will be in those dorms as well.
Why Eckerd College? And why would you waste time and effort just to see if you could get accepted ?
It makes more sense to look for schools that you can afford, that have a good reputation for the majors you are interested in, and that you are happy to attend if you get accepted.
Are you working with some kind of professional counselor to help you with your Anxiety? If so, what advice are they giving you about going far away to college? Sometimes it helps to stay closer to home when you are dealing with health issues. If you are a short car ride away, you can come home for a weekend if the chaos of living on campus gets to be too much, or come home to see your local therapist.
Having Anxiety Disorder does not mean you can’t attend college, but it should mean that you consider it as a legitimate factor in making your college decision.
I have a friend who goes to UMBC and she absolutely hates it. She is from Western MA and liked the campus when she first visited but is now transferring to a community college after first semester. UMBC is a very very big commuter school and if you aren’t from that area, you will feel very alone on the weekends when everyone goes home and you will still be on campus. She says the athletes are the only normal people and everyone else seems very weird, this may not be a problem for you but she doesn’t feel like she fits in at all with the people at the school. Also, she doesn’t think the classes are all that challenging.
Keep in mind this is only based on one person’s experience, Im sure there are tons of people who have gone there and loved it but when I visited her at college on a Saturday night and the campus was empty, I could definitely see where she was coming from.
Campus-wide Wifi is pretty much the standard for all schools at any level these days. Not having it it the dorms is bad, but it’s a bigger issue than that. You should be able to sit outside on a nice day with your study group or by yourself and have network access.
As silly as it sounds, this should be a deal-breaker for any serious student.
I second Geneseo and woudl suggest (not knowing your grades) perhaps SUNY Binghamton or SUNY New Paltz as well. I wouldn’t let the wifi thing scare you from a college you love – I’d imagine that students have already figured out how to work around it.
there is in fact campus wide Wi-Fi at TCNJ . It’s the freshman dorms which are being renovated next year where there is a issue and its will no longer be an issue as next year they are being completely renovated. Second time I’ve said this now. Of course the entire remainder of campus has Wi-Fi. So yes you can sit outside and have wifi.
Seriously, you don’t become the #! ranked public in the north without computer access.
Geneseo seems like a reasonable choice. It is the closest the SUNY system has to something that seems like a small liberal arts college and it does not look like a SUNY (which some have likened to an extended NY middle school designed in the 50s and built in the 70s). In terms of wifi, I don’t know about each SUNY campus. Binghamton has it in all its buildings I think but no, my understanding is that you still would not " be able to sit outside on a nice day with your study group or by yourself and have network access." since most of outside is out of range. For reliable wifi you’d have to be inside a building. But that is probably true everywhere.
