im currently at CSU BAKERSFIELD as a transfer student, i transferred here last fall as a junior for the Business administration program. I currently am studying for a BA with a marketing concentration but im thinking about switching to a finance or management concentration. my problem is that i HATE this place, not just the campus but the city in general. deciding to transfer out here was the worst mistake ive made.

CONS:
its a commuter school
no football team
dorms suck!
it has a community college feel

PROS:
AACSB Accredited business school
classes are easy to get into
small class sizes

Ive only got about 12 more classes to finish my degree if i stick with marketing concentration, but i really am looking into transferring to another CSU UC
but sometimes i wonder if its alittle too late for me to transfer. if i stick it out here in bakersfield i should be done by summer '12 at the latest.

ANY ADVICE, OPINIONS, CRITICISM?

i would just stay and finish up your degree. your one year a away of getting it, transferring could put you back more money, and more classes away from graduating.

I think you should just stick it out in Bakersfield and finish your degree. You wouldn’t be able to transfer to most UCs because you are over the unit cap. Even if you could transfer, you wouldn’t be able to start until Fall 2012 and by then you’d have your degree already! Not sure how CSUs work with senior level transfers but transferring will delay you getting your degree and cost you more money. Save the money and the time you would spend in transferring and put it towards grad school or something else more useful.

Thanks LAlady, that’s what many people tell me, by the time I transfer I could be done with my degree here at csub. I think I’m just going to get more involved, find an internship and get ready for a professional job. BUT DO YOU GUYS THINK THAT A MARKETING DEGREE IS WORTH IT? MY MARKETING TEACHER LAST SEMESTER SAID SHE FELT SORRY FOR US MARKETING MAJORS.

Just stick it out at CSUB. Like you said, try and get more involved with school related activities. College is supposed to be the best years of your life, might as well make the best of it. Keep your grades up and save your money for graduate school if that is what you want to do.

Marketing profs always say things like that. They are like farmers who always are gripping how poor they are but just bought a new 1/2 million dollar tractor and $50,000 Cadillac for their wife.

The truth is that you will find a job… no it will not be what it was 5 years ago, but you will be able to work your way up in a few years to a very nice position.

Thanks, I guess I just got really scared hearing what she said about the degree.

And then everyone keeps saying that college years should be the best years, but I’m having a hard time accepting this, its like I’m in such a rush to graduate, get a job and most importantly a home. I’ve never really had that mentality about college, I’ve been working since I was 16

I too understand the pressure to work and to make sure that you are on a good career path. I would not believe all of those people who say that college should be the best years of your life… how can you be the happiest when you are the most poor and most stressed out you will ever be?
