What exactly can we charge to our student account? Besides the costs of dorms and college fees, would only textbooks that were bought at college bookstores count? What if you bought textbooks elsewhere? And I"m guessing supplies can also be charged to your student account? but how broad is the supplies topic? does it included anything related to education like computer?

I think it’d more depend on the school that you go to—are you referring to a student bank account specifically?

No i"m referring to the student account in which all your financial aid money and scholarships go.

oh…yeah as far as I know at my school (UMBC) we can only use that for tuition, room, and board. Books and extras are all outside of that.

At my school you can charge anything in the bookstore to your account. But you only get $500 to spend in the bookstore. You had to spend at least $10 in order to charge it to your account.

At my school we can charge anything in the bookstore, c-stores, or campus cafes to our bill under a “Cy Cash” option, but it has to be pre-loaded. It can be preloaded in increments of $5 at any time and you can have a max of like $250 on your bill at one time, or an unlimited amount directly out of your bank account.

You can’t charge things bought off-campus to your student account. This is probably the rule at the majority of schools.

At my college we have two separate accounts: a tuition account where tuition, room and board and other expenses (lost key fees etc) are charged to, and a “spending money” account with money that we can use in the bookstore and the cafeterias, but the money has to be pre-loaded. I don’t think anyone is actually using this account because paying with a regular debit card is more convenient.
