I was looking through my old emails when I saw one from SPS. It was an email from a few students who said they looked forward to reading my application and it was signed the Student Admission Committee. Do students get minor input on applicants or are they a fixed part of the selecting system?

They get some input into it (probably just read over) but overall it is the AOs decision.

I believe the Student Admissions Committee is an idiosyncrasy of St. Paul’s School, but I’m not sure. Letting students make judgements doesn’t seem to click well with me. XP

On a related note: does the AO opinion “win”? I mean if the AO likes a particular applicant does that mean he/she has a better chance of admission?

@GoldenRatio, big word so I had to look it up. I like the idea that students get input to be honest.

I’d also assume an AO’s opinion trumps a student’s.

Students definitely talk about the people they tour. They also will tell admission if the kid would be a good fit in their opinion.

Tour guides definitely do say something about the applicant. It’s just a form filled out about where we went on the tour and if we think the applicant is a good fit for the school. In terms of the SAOs (Student Admission Officers), they read the files and get an opinion in the matter, but the directors of admission get the final say. At SPS the SAOs are all VI formers (seniors). Everything adds up, so there’s no specific person making a decision about an applicant.
