Student Ambasador Program

Has anyone heard of / gone on one of these? I got a recomendation letter in the mail saying I should do it. I went to the website and it looks authentic... I'm just curious if anyone's done it. I was invited to the England / Wales / Ireland one.

A lot of my friends received letters for it. They got one's for China, but no one really wants to go there. lol.

It looks credible. I would do it if I was recommended for something other than China.. lol. Plus, I'd like a program that had more emphasis on language.

But, anyway.... yeah. I tihnk you should go. I don't think it will help you out with colleges or anything, since A LOT of people get those letters, so just do it for the experience.

BTW - One of my friends went on one to Australia a few years ago and said it cost around $3,500. All she did was ask local businesses for donations and she got like $500 extra.

It really is nothing to be proud of. And, it is a big money maker for those people. That being said, people do enjoy themselves w/the travel. A perk for the wealthy.

I am recommended for the Germany/Austria/Italy/Greece trip. Is it worthwhile to go?
and Jonathan K. there is nothing wrong with China.

Is it with People to People?

These trips are a lot of fun. You do the usual sight seeing and on some trips you'll end up doing some community service. I went on one of these trips a year ago and got community service hours for a river cleanup and i went again this year and got another 30 service hours.

They're credible, but i dont know if they will help you get into college. As long as everything else on your app doesn't scream rich kid then it'll be fine.

i got invited to australia last yr but out of 10 friends i asked from my school 9 of them got recommended... my friend told me he was invited in fourth grade... and when i asked my gc she said not to do it?? apparently it's just a money maker...

lol oh ic, iI just didn't know if it is a good program or something like who's who, whihc is pointless

My other friend said she has been invited to it for the past two years. I don't think I'm going because it is too expensive and not worth it... I'm going to take classes at the local college instead. It's cheaper and more worth it.

What's that supposed to mean? I went to China with my orchestra this summer for the first time. It was the best summer ever.

I went on something from them to New York (an arts seminar of sorts; I figured I'd broaden my horizons/worldview/whatever a bit) after freshman year, about 2 years before I found out about the business behind it through this forum. The program seemed poorly organized, and the sightseeing was poorly selected and planned (we'd spend hours touring performance venues--what could be more boring?--and yet spend little time at a massive place like the Metropolitan Museum of Art). I think that I'd have enjoyed the trip more if I wasn't as constrained to someone else's schedule, so I'm delaying any traveling until I have that sort of freedom (unless it gives me academic opportunities). Save the money and do something else.

Just happened to see this topic. My daughter went on four people to people trips. She loved all of them. Yes, it is expensive. But, if you can afford it, it is a great experience. Any questions? I will pass them on to her.

I think I missed the dealine for the meeting or whatever... LOL.... but it's not like I'm going to go. It's way to expensive, and my parents don't want me to go. Thank you though for your responses.

Don't worry about it. It is really just a perk for the well to do.

I didn't mean to come of as though I hate China. I just meant that I don't have an interest in going there, that's all.

It's nothing prestigious, but it is a good way to experience another country. I went to New Zealand and Australia last year. You immerse yourself in the native cultures such as the Maori, by staying a night at a community Marae, and the Aborigine of Australia by eating a meal prepared by them and watching the native dance. You also do lots of adventurous activities, which I liked.

If you signed something that allowed your name to be given to colleges and stuff...you've probably gotten one of these. I've receieved several people to people student ambassador letters over the years...they always make these things out to make it seem like YOU are so smart and qualified and special... but really a ton of people get it.

I got invited to I think it was the Greece/Italy trip. Read it, got kind of excited, but then went to the website and saw it was way out of my family's price range, with saving for college and what not.

Oh well... I'm used to it...

I am going to the England/Ireland Heritage this summer. It looks credible and will provide a lot of insight and experience to the student ambassadors. It is quite expensive but a lot of the ambassadors fundraise for it. I might be able to answer some questions when I come back.

My only complaint with them is that they mislead people into thinking they are something other than what they are - a tour provider for teenagers.

I actually went to the france/italy/greece trip 2 summers ago. It was a great experience, and I really did enjoy it. But its not a very prestigious program (everybody at my school district has been recommended for it, or will be eventually). It's more like a 3 week vacation, but well worth the money.
